I will be up in Escanaba next Wednesday through Saturday and was looking for any info on some shore/dock fishing. Will there be any thing to catch around the marina downtown or along the water front?

Thanks,

Tom

I'm not sure where they are biting right now, but two places to check out are Ludington Park, there are some walleyes caught off the lighthouse, pike caught in the marina with the occasional splake.

The Escanaba River now has a fishing pier as well I believe. Go to the Citgo in Wells, take a left, once you hit sheridan road there should be signs if you go south there, or straight is where I believe they built a pier at the old launch.

There's also a little fishing pier right off of US2/41 right below the damn at NewPage (old Mead plant).

Good luck, sorry can't help much more, but I've been in the woods.

Best bet for shore fishing walleyes right now would be the mouth of the Escanaba harbor after dark. #10 or #12 Husky Jerks in firetiger are always a safe bet there. During the day you can catch pike as Gilbey said. Bombers, spinnerbaits, spoons and redtail chubs under a bobber will all work. You can also catch bass at the mouth on tube jigs during the day.

The new fishing platforms on the Escanaba River are still under construction. You could fish from shore or off the docks just upstream from them at the boat launch, but I really wouldn't expect to run into too many walleyes this time of year - but you never know.

The mouth of the Gladstone harbor and the fishing pier in Kipling can be good at night for walleyes, as long as the weeds have died down enough to get a crankbait over them.

Good luck on your trip.
