Does anyone have any experience with a wireless weather station? I saw these in Cabelas yesterday and they intrigue me. We don't have a thermometer outside and don't really want to put some big round ugly thermometer on our deck. I was thinking one of these would be pretty cool. This particular model can be bought for $135. What does everyone think? Are these good and reliable or just a gimmick?

My kids bought me one of those really inexpensive sets that just transmits the temp from the remote unit. I used it to monitor the temperature in the garage. The thing worked for a couple of years before it went down the tubes. Only problem I experienced was that in really cold temps, like below 20 degrees, the remote unit would not display the temp and the inside unit would not receive any signal. When it warmed up it was OK.
I do not remember if there was a problem on really hot days.
This worked out for me since my garage rarely dropped below 30 degrees. Keep in mind that this was an older unit from many years ago and the kids did not pay a lot for it.
I was just thinking about getting something similar just so I could know how fast and what direction the wind is. The unit you have shown us is impressive and it might be able to handle some of the temperature extremes.

I have one of the BassPro, inside/outside temp, time and barometer trend ones, I like it. I think a wind speed and direction would be nice, but I would want to mount the sensor somewhere that would get the most accurate readings.

Yeah, I'm not too concerned about the range. I've read reviews and nobody has had any issues with its range. I'm putting it on my Christmas list, so it might be a while before I can comment on the unit.
