View Full Version : Which Portable Would Be Darker Inside??

Looking into a portable shanty for scouting some spearing lakes. Really like the idea of the Eastman Tundra and Eskimo Quick Fish. I know the Eastman does not have a floor in it and assuming the Eskimo Quick Fish doesn't either. That would work great for cutting a speaing hole.

My question is, has anyone been in either of those two models and do you know if one is darker than the other? As far as the fabric, is one more opaque than the other? Does one have windows that let in less light than the other?

Thanks if you can help!

Mr. Bluegill - pm coming back

bigbob - yes, they call it the cube now. does that thing let me light in when it's set up? is the material heavy enough that you can't see light through it?

its dark the walls are thick.i have some pinholes in the seams but with every thing closed its plenty dark.i use a 12 volt rope light that i hang at the top for light inside. now with no floor you get light off the ice [with no snow cover ] but not much, you can see fine in the water:D

I don't have either of the two models you mentioned. But I have an HT Iceman Express. It has Black 500 dernier (Very thick) canvas and is very dark. Has 4 windows. It's the single man sled. I got it at Cabela's for $200. Mine came with a folding chair and a cover.

I'm concerned about the plastic floors in those other models. Maybe I shouldn't be. I guess you could reconfigure it but you obviously need a larger hole and would much prefer the hole to be in the center of the floor. By the time you cut the center out and figuring they already have one side cut out, there wouldn't be much left.

That's why the tents seem like a good idea. But I can see where the wind would play heck with them. If you're just using it to scout lakes for the permanent shacks, you could pick and choose the days you take it out.

Thanks for all the input.

I have a Shappell 4000. Very dark inside although i don't think it would be my choice for spearing. Heavy duty too! Good luck! :D :D
