I made a recurve bow in my wood shop class when I was in 10th grade. I have never really got around to using it in the woods. I was wondering what the best arrow to use would be, wood or aluminum. Like I said, I am inexperienced and just looking for a helping hand to get me and my recurve in the woods
Backyard ... do you happen to know what poundage it is and what your draw length would be? If you are just starting out, if it were me, I'd probably start out with aluminum arrows for no other reason than the consistency in spine and weight. Sometimes wood arrows can be a little bit inconsistent. At least with aluminum, when things don't go right, you'll have a tendency to know it is more than likely something you are doing as opposed to your set up.
Best of luck.

My bow is a 55# bow and I shoot about a 29.5-30 inch draw length. P.S. where abouts in hudsonville do you live....I live in hudsonville to.
We live right in town here in Hudsonville.
I shoot a 53 pound Widow with either 2018's and 160 grain broadheads/field points or 2016's with 145 grain broadheads/field points. I draw right at 28" with 29" arrows.
With your draw and weight, I would try a 2018 with a 125 or 145 grain broadhead or field point. You might get by with a 2016 but I wouldn't go any heavier than a 125 grain broadhead or field point.
Others may have a little more advice. Sometimes with arrows and heads and bows there aren't a lot of hard and fast rules re what works and what doesn't.
Hope this helps a little bit ...
