I have hunted there a few times, usually during the muzzleloader season. I have seen a lot of deer, usually does and small bucks. I'm sure their are some big ones there. I just got my letter today for the Dec 12-17th hunt. Looking forward to snow. Got a nice doe from there last year! Did you get picked?

I have some friends that have hunted there. A good way to scout is to duck hunt it. (Excellent duck hunting) If you know where to go, it can be very good hunting. Lots of deer, however, they are well trained! Good luck.

My father-inlaw and I have hunted the refuge years ago. I actually had to pass up many large bucks because we had to shoot a doe first. Never worked to good for us considering it was a 3 day hunt. (tough) My wife shot a nice buck with her bow out there when she was 12, now she's 35. That place is an awsome place to hunt. I personally think it takes a couple years to figure it out.:)

You really have to "bottle-neck" those deer. There's tons of wide open mature forest, and you can see deer everywhere, but it takes some scouting to find the honey holes. My picture is a 1.5 old 7 pt. that came out Shiawassee last Oct. --Overdraw

My dad and a couple of buddies of ours, along as myself, all were lucky enough to get a federal december hunt. It'll take a buckwizzerd to bag a nice buck out there! Ha! Ha!

I've seen a lot deer there so far but the mosquitos are so damn thick that it makes for a very upleasant hunt. The skeeters were so bad this evening that it made in imposible to stay still, didnt really have a chance seeing anything with my arms flaling about i'm i would have been detected so I opted to cut the hunt short and watch some football instead.

Lot's of water this year which in turn means lot's of mosquitos, which was already mentioned...be sure to bring your rubber boots and Thermacell if it is still warm. Also, a GPS is a great thing to have at the SGA....lots of big woods that all looks the same...especially in the dark!

I just remembered a couple things we learned while hunting the refuge. Using a boat for the fed side helped access a lot. When walking out on the state part, bring a wheel barrel or something of that nature when you walk to youre area. Its quite a walking/dragging nightmare if you bag something.;)
That is if they still don't allow atv's.;)
