Well, with the Bass tournaments over with for the season and not guiding everyday of the week I have had some time to change pace a little the past couple of weeks and play with SM and perch. The smallie action has been awesome in Simcoe/Couch, the Kawartha's and some of the Haliburton lakes lately. With the water temps starting to fall the fish have really been turning on the 'feed bag' lately and the action has been nothing short of amazing. I'm finding most of the fish are still relating to mid-late summer structures but often on the deeper sides or even suspended just off deep humps or long points. Dragging tubes with heavy heads and drop-shotting finesse baits have all produced extremely well. The other nice thing about this time of the year is that with the fish being somewhat deeper you can often see them on your electronics and cast right to them. Over the next few weeks as the lakes are turning the fish will move somewhat deeper. Working vertical presentations with 'chunk spoons' like the hopkins or even blade baits can really get the fish going. Here are a couple of pics from the last couple of outings:

The jumbo perch on Simcoe are also starting to school up now. I'm finding fish locating to hard/soft bottom transitions in the 25 to 35' ranges right now and man are they feeding. Small tube jigs and Storm finesse minnows and Lunker City Finesse fish (2.5" sizes) are all producing well. Here is a pic of some typical fish from a couple of days ago....
