This morning I went out steelheading and broke a long loved fishing pole while packing in the garage. (I know this is a hunting forum--I'll get to my point). Suddenly, I was surprised to hear myself say, "Sorry Old Friend for being so careless. Thanks for all the fish!" I kind of laughed out loud and then grabbed my back up spinning rig and headed out (only to catch numerous shad a four smallies).
At any rate, as I was driving out, I thought of my reaction and decided to start this thread: in short, does any one have equipment that they think of as a buddy of sorts? (God forbid I bust my bear recurve!!). Just wanting to hear general thoughts...

Grandpa's old 1960 JC Higgins 12 gauge pump. Been shooting it since I was a boy and I'm over forty now! I recently split up all the inherited guns with my brothers and I let go of a Belguim made Browning 12 ga semi just to keep the JC Higgins. The Browning is worth 4 or 5 times as much.

I call my old Remington 30.06 old trusty. Every year I say I'm going to buy a new rifle, and every year I still hunt with that gun. I've taken over 20 deer with it and can't seem to not use it.

Not so much hunting gear but my kayak is like an old friend. Ive only had it for a couple of years but have had many great times in it. Wouldnt trade it for the nicest bass boat. Her name is lucille most of the time. But when Im stuck in a snag and cannot control her from dragging me downstream because I have a paddle in one hand and my snagged pole in the other. Spiders falling on me. Sticks poking me. Then I have another name for her but its not apropriate for this site.
