Can any one helpme out with the laws on hunting with a pistol. I want to hunt small game with my 410/45 colt pistol (only shot paper with it). I don't think I nead a concealed weapons permit to hunt with it? or do I?, do I need one if the weapon is not conealed (visible for everyone to see in the feild)?

Also do you all think a 45 colt (with 8" barrel) will take down a deer, at 30 yards I place 5 out of 5 shots in a 4" paper plate (cheap targets from dollar store). What do you all think.

The hunting guide has a very nice section on the current laws surrounding pistols and hunting. It's also on-line at the DNR web site and since you obviously have a computer....

Here you go.

Yes a 45 is good for Deer, actually with the right loads it is good out to 100 yards. But I have a 454 casul, I use the 45 ammo to practice trigger control. My backup is a Vaquero in 45. 5 for 5 in a 4" plate isn't too bad, you need to be able to do that at 50 yards, I can get 2 1/2" groups at 50. The only people I know that need a concealed permit to use a handgun in Michigan to hunt with are out of staters like me. But remember, if you are carrying it in a holster and it is covered by yuour jacket it is condsidered concealed. Les
