Does anyone know of any deer processors in the Grand Rapids area that might be open late during bow season? Just worrying that with the warm weather it might not be ok to let a deer hang overnight outside. Any advice? I can't do it myself as I live in an apartment.

buy a couple bags of ice and shove em up the chest cavity, or put it in the tub or back of truck w/ some ice, hehe, not sure it will do anything but a thought

That works out since I will likely be hunting in or near the Flat River Game Area.:) Right on the way home.

Run a hose in the deer to cool it quickly. Have you ever held your hand in the stream of water from a hose in October? Pretty cold. A meat processor told me that.

If your hunting Flat River there is also a guy on old 91 right where it turns into Flat River Drive, (just north of Lowell). He is on the east side of the road. He does a great job.

HTC... is there a sign in front? If not, do you have an address?

I don't know the street address but he does have a sign. Something like "Big Buck Run"? You can also call Gary's Country Meats in Lowell at 897-7306, they will know the address, I think he works with them. If your coming from the Northwest he will be on your left after you cross Montcalm Road right before you cross over the Flat river.

Funny you should be asking that question. I was just logging on to ask the same thing. I usually cut up my own deer, but I don't have a whole day to devote to it tomorrow as I have to work 2nd shift. Same thing, i'm worried it's too warm to let one hang. Anybody know if any of the processors you listed does it boneless? That's why I usually do my own is to get it without the bones.
Good luck tomorrow..................

I've been taking my deer to Pickney's just East of Lowell about 1/2 mile or so. Not sure how late they're open, but you can hang your deer upside down, put a couple of bags of ice in the cavity and wrap it in some type of canvas tarp and it should be fine til morning, plus evenings have been fairly cool lately too!!! Pickneys also vacume seals all the cuts!!!! I've eaten two year old deer vacume sealed and it is just as fresh as the day it was wrapped.
