Got this one back tonight. It was a little over 300 pounds walking.

My wife has named it "Fugly". I don't think I need to explain how that word was created.

A good representation of the species in my opinion.

Shot in the UP at a ranch NW or Escanaba.

Nice mount. My wife would have similar concerns!!!

Can you describe the hunt? I am curious whether it resembled the hunting many of us are accustomed to, or was it more like an andrenalin enhanced trip to the grocery store? Either way its fine by me!

The hunt was at a game farm. We hunted inside a fenced in enclosure. They called it a "pen", but what it was really an 80 acre UP cedar swamp with a fence around it. Not as "canned" as I though it was going to be. It took us most of the first day to shoot the first two. Once we got the travel routes figured out that made it a bit easier. They travel in groups so getting one to split off for a shot can be difficult. You don't want to shoot two, unless you want to buy two. I shot mine with a muzzleloader. Good hunt with the right group of people. You can really make it as hard as you want. You can spot and stalk, post on the ground, use a tree stand, drive them to the shooter,......

Sweet. 300lbs+ is a BIG pig.

I shot this one this past spring in Argentina on a duck trip. A flash light and a 30-06 got the job done:lol:

350lbs+ I didn't do a mount, just kept the teeth.

That mount kind of looks like a girl I seen in a bar in Cadillac one night a few years ago. Even after 14 beers she still didn't look good.

TSS: where in argentina?
I am from La Pampa, Arg. and grew up hunting wildboars...

We ambushed them in the water sources (very arid region with a few places with water). We hunted during the night with the full moon. 7.62 or 7.65 where the guns of choice.

Here is a link to the place we went to. The Superior Game Ranch.

We did not pay the listed prices. The hunt was booked at Outdoorama and we got a show special of some kind.

I don't remember the name of the town. We were about 2 hours from Santa Rosa. Knowning that Santa Rosa is a common name, the Santa Rosa in LaPampa, I think it is the province capital? We flew out of Santa Rosa when we went back to Buenos Aires. We hunted ducks and Perdiz in Buenos Aires province and then drove to hunt doves and pigeon in LaPampa province.

Farmer called complaining that he had a sow in heat and that this wild boar was comming in and messing with his sows and wanted it gone. One night after a few bottles of wine and Quilmes, we grabbed some flashlights and a 30-06, threw a couple more bottles of Quilmes in the truck and headed out. Farmer was happy to get rid of the boar and I was happy to do so for free. After seeing where he was living and that he had what looked to be a 2 year old, I gave him a couple hundred bucks and we were all happy.

A good way to round out a hunt.

Hey! I am from Santa Rosa of La Pampa! (and yep, that small city is the capital) You are right, wildboars are a nuisance there.

Near S.R. (1-2 hr south) it is very good for red stags sometimes (you should hear the chorus during the ruth, in march).

We used to go west of S.R. for the pigs... less boars, but larger on average (and "pure wild", not crossed with the farm pigs).

...And you did a nice thing to thank the gaucho.
thanks for sharing!

PS: I've just noticed your Quilmes avatar! hahaha! you make me feel homesickness, TSS ;^)

So having seen how small of a town Santa Rosa is, I must ask, how did you end up here?

That is definetly the smallest airport that I've ever been in. We were laughing that they had a truck to chase the pigeons off the runway  I would have taken care of the pigeons for free:D

I liked the area. As far as Buenos Aires, I really wasn't too keen on the city. Standing out in a large city like that makes you the target of every vendor around. "Sir, would you like to come visit my leather factory" I must have heard that 1000 times:lol: That combined with the road that goes through the center of town, don't remember the name but it is I think 14 lanes wide! I'd have been in an accident in about 5 minutes if I tried driving there.

I've been in lansing the past couple of years because I am a grad student at MSU. :) I live here with my daugther.

Before coming here, I lived in the metro area of Buenos Aires for 3 years and I have to agree with you... for a person who loves the outdoors and the open spaces of a rural area, the big city wasn't that kind of atraction...

I was always worried about someone pocket picking on me or something, and yes, the harass of the vendors...
and another thing: leather factories are famous for their scams to tourists, they used to have this 'comercial strategy': they show a product with a sign of 100. you buy it... if you are american they'll charge you 100 'greens', if you are local they'll charge you 100 pesos, if you are spaniard they'll charge you 100 euros!!!! detail: 1 euro~1.2 dolar, 1 dolar~3 pesos!!!

oh! and you are referring to "9 de julio" avenue! in Buenos Aires they say that it is the widest avenue in the whole word :lol::lol:

So for any sportman going there I would say: stay in buenos aires the minimum time possible. Make the most of your trip by going to patagonia for world class trout fishing, or la pampa for a good hunt (small/large game).
