My daughter is home from UM for the weekend (Go Blue!). She wants to go catfishing one night. (She got hooked fishing up at Ovid for cats a couple years ago). Anyhoo, I have heard there are lots of cats in Belleville. Can anyone give me some info on where to try from shore? Want to give it a try Sat. night. Any tips on a good spot to try and mebbe the hot bait there would be apreciated!!

South end of Point mouille on the dike at the lead zone(park and walk out to the fishing platform) is always really good for kids and I..we use night crawlers there..as for Belleville lake you can try by the dam at sandy's, park on the road by the dam and walk to sandy's for bait or use hot dogs and send the hook and sinker as far out in front of the bouys by the dam as you can..it is deep and the cats are there..have seen some big one's come out of there..a friend of mine is a westland PD and diver for them and he said there are a ton of cats there..really big ones is what he said and..well he does not like to dive there anymore..he was white and pale one day when he came up and would not go into it..So i guess that means REALLY BIG..but who knows for sure...good luck

I was just reading a think on belleville last night. THe article said that during a fish survey a 50 pound cat was caught. That would be the new state record! The best bait that they said you could use was cut shad or a live bluegill. The second best was jumbo shrimp. GOod luck to you and your daughter! I will be out there sunday with BigGameHunter to do a little bass fishing.

58lbs is the biggest cat I know of from Belleville lake straight off the DNR boat launch on Rawsonville rd, before it was there. A man by the last name Hyde caught it on cut bait shad soaked in garlic oil. The channel to the right of the launch near the aparments holds tons of cats in the 6-12lb class.
I'm not sure how the lilly pads are this year been working to much to fish. Been 4 months since I took the bass boat out. Great fishing there for cats.
Best of luck night fishing!

Man, I am a chowderhead! Put up a post asking for info, then forgot all about it until I was already out at Belleville Sat. night. If you were in the Belleville area Sat, mebbe you could smell the "skunk" I was acookin' up down at the lake. Tried at the DNR launch off of Rawsonville Rd. Wicked carpenter, I guess this was the spot you posted about-ended up there by coincidence. . All I caught was a couple white perch. Water was maybe 5' deep at best where we were fishing-I think too shallow for cats. It was dark when we got there, so I never did see those apartments.
Packed up after an hour or so, went over to Belleville rd. Found a little Park next to where the lake necks down under Belleville Rd. Fished a couple hrs. there. Water was deeper and we were pretty close to the channel. Thought it might pan out ok, but I cooked up some skunk there too.
I need to get over there during the daytime and drive around. Kind of hard to find fishing spots in the dark when you've never been in the area before. There is a dam on the opposite end of the lake from Rawsonville Rd, isn't there? Would the lake side of the dam or mebbe the downstream side be a good place to try for cats?

Both sides would give you a good oppurtunity. What were you using for bait?

Would the lake side of the dam or mebbe the downstream side be a good place to try for cats?

Earlier in the summer we caught a lot of cats (not on purpose) right at the final bend before the dam.
