I have a fairly new pheasant mount and have noticed the tail feathers looking rough, i have discovered that moths are eating away at it. Does any one have a cure for this? Or ever heard of it?

Are you sure it is moths? have you seen them? you might have a dermisted beatle problem from the skin not getting perserved good.

The Wildlife Gallery has noted that the only sure way to get ahead of dermisted beatles through a couple of freeze cylces.
Freeze for several days, thaw for two, repeat twice - the eggs can live through the freeze, the beatles can not.
At the moment, regulation of chemicals has made preventative maintanence impossible.

Would using a "fogger" hurt the mount?

I assume they are moths, they are white and have wings. The house I bought had a bear mount in it for a while and they were eating that as well. I havent had any issues with My deer, or ducks.

I don't know why a fogger would hurt. Dust it off after a couple of days.

I lost an Impala mount to moths. Actually I think it came from the taxidermist with them already. Here is what I did, I went to Tractor Supply and bought a Dairy spray that kills bugs. I then lightly sprayed the mount and put it in a big garbage bag and sealed it. After 2 days I opened it up and sprayed into the bag and closed it back up for 2 weeks. Just to be safe I did that with a bunch of other mounts also. I then went online and bought a bunch of Mount Shield. Mount Shield is a spray that repells bugs. Every 6 months now I mist all my mounts with Mount Shield.
There is also a company that travels the country and preserves mounts and guarentees them for something like 10 years. Pricey though.
Ideally you would also want to fog your house to kill any that are in there. Knowing though that women living in houses that spray inside for bugs have more likelyhood of having children with birth defects, I have not done so.

just put the mount in a plastic bag with a lot of moth balls for a month and you will be fine.should have no problems after that;)
