If you had 3 consecutive week's vacation from work to hunt and it did not matter which season: bow or gun or combinations. And it did not matter what you hunted with ie...a bow, rifle, or black powder. Only that you wanted to have the best oppertunity to see the most and the biggest bucks and the best chance to take a shot.....which consecutive three weeks would you take off? I have been told early bow cause the deer aren't spooked and I have been told the last week of bow and rifle cause the bucks are in rut. Any idea's? I have saved my vacation time for a year and am looking forward to spending some time in the woods.

I'd have to do something like November 12th to December 4th mostly so I could do all 3 forms of deer hunting.

Based on this years calendar I'd take from 10/28 through 11/19. Assuming you get weekends off. That would give me 18 days of bowhunting during the prime of the rut plus the first 5 days of gun season.

I would take Nov 14 onward for 2 weeks. Thenthe third week, I would just go to the lawyers office to handle the divorce papers my wife would serve me for taking 3 weeks for hunting.
Prior to being married, I had built up 2 weeks of Comp time. Plus 2 weeks vacation. So I took off November. Best vacation ever!

Thanks for all the imput. I am leaning towards the November 4th (weekends are off) through the Thanksgiving weekend. That way I get the holiday and weekend for free. I can save all vacation for ice fishing! I also get a chunk of the rut and bow and gun. I can still hunting after the vacation, it will just be more difficult with the job. I appreciate all the advise though and will review it before turning in my final slip! And I'm married ....just my husband hunts too which really helps!!

Some men have all the luck. To find a lady who hunts and is willing to spend their vacation time doing it.

Agreed!
I've got note in a log of all my deer hunts for 20+ years, and the last days of October and the first days of November are hands down the best times to see smart deer making mistakes (moving in daylight)...

Well, the "experts" are saying the rut will begin on November 6th this year and continue throughout a 40 day period. Getting out there before and during would be great. So, what everyone is saying about the end of October and later sounds good to me. If I took three weeks off and spent all that time in the woods, I would probably come home to an empty house. I can hunt all I want but three weeks would be a lot even for me. Good luck and get that big one. You can't get a deer if you aren't in the woods.
