My dad swears by using a dab or two of turpentine as a scent block if you are hunting in a pine area. He says it's made out of 100% evergreen and is easier to apply then rubbing one's self in pine needles. Any body ever try it?

That's a new one on me. How many will agree with it?
Perhaps placing it on the boots would be best?
Wouldn't work as a scent block, might work as a cover scent, don't have any experience with it, but it'd be a misnomer to call it a scent blocker.

Good luck and report back to us with the results...BTW might not want to smoke a cigarette when ol dad is applying his scent block!!
once or twice..found, even in small amounts, to be too pungent--actually spooked the deer.

I tried it a couple of times last year by putting a Q-tip dab on the tops of each boot to cover the any boot order. I also tried a a couple of dabs on my hat once but that was too overwhelming. I don't know for sure if it helped or hurt because I did not see any deer on those days but there were lots of days I did not see deer.

I've heard of taking chlorophyll pills. But not turpentine. I'd rather NOT smell.

I knew a guy that swore by diesel fuel as a cover scent. He actually rubbed it right on his suit. Said the deer couldn't smell his human scent!

Would the deer notice him going up in flames when lighting up a smoke in the tree? I could imagine a human fireball swinging back and forth from a harness while trying to smolder the fire while yelling "but ya can't smell me, can ya?"!

The only thing I can think of using terpentine for is to cover up is those early morning urges that come along on opening day at 9am and you can't make it back to camp so you grab a close tree take care of business and dump some terpentine on it to cover my scent.....
