I've been to the hole past Deckers three times this year, and still no sturgeon... I've seen a 20 pounder jump less than 20 feet from the boat, and I've sent back countless cheater's including Eye's, Cat's, sheep, Ha! even a white sucker er too (I don't like that name).

Tomorrow's my last chance to try this year because, that thing that I do to pay for worms and gas, is making me leave the state untill the 3rd of next month :( . I've read the threads, studied the posts, and done my homework... in other words, I'm finding the feeding fish, and staying over the edges, and structure.... most of the time fishing in 25'-35' of water. My question is this... Should I be fishing farther up the channel? I've been just past the second no wake bouy... (approx 37'43.66--38'13.45) Any help is appreciated, I'm confident that my rigging and baits are not the problem.

I've been reading posts here for 5 years now, and I feel like I know a few people on here... Wait! I DO...<G> I Have my tag, but its just to be legal, I would NEVER take one of these old Sir's from the lake, they are magnificent!

Thank you, Hank Kiluk

P.S. I am a sturgeon virgin, so you can only imagine my excitment when this 18lb cat got my hook caught in his lip last trip out! <G> (check the pic)
DOH, Doh I can't post a pic on here...LOL sry.. I'll post a link...

IFN and I went out tonight. He lost a small sturgeon and landed another one about 3ft long. 1 walleye, 2 rock bass, a very large redhorse sucker and a channel catfish filled out the night. It has been a little bit slower this year than in the past. The best advice I can give is that if you have fish jumping near the boat you are probably in the right area. Persistence will pay off. The area around the Harsens Island ferry has been good to us.

You may try moving upstream and launch out of Algonac. i've had better success upstream compared to down by Deckers. However, I have caught some large fish out of the deeper areas in front of the mouth of the Sni. There's also a deeper hole out in front of Lega's that produces a fish as well as by Sassy Marina (look for the giant hockey sticks). But, also try fishing along the shelves (off the docks) on the North Channel anywhere between the Middle Channel all the way up to up to Algonac. I think these fish like to follow those contours of the bottom of the shelf. Although, I see fish jumping in the middle of the channel all the time, so my theory is probably not that sound. The thing about sturgeon fishing is that it's often slowww... I have had many skunks or one fish nights.

i must agree with dortman.

i have been out like 5 times this year and only have had 1 sturgon in the boat. that sturgon came on the 3rd trip out.

treeman, ifn and dortman know what they are talking about. i am personal student of treeman and ifn. they taught me all i know. this is my second year of sturgon fishing. i was out probably 6 weeks in a row last year before i got my first.

I would take any advice from Treeman and Dortman. They are good at catching the ugly ones.

I hear you guys. We've been out 5 times this year and been skunked twice. The big fish of the year for us came the last time out and it was only 26 inches.

We must hold the title for the smallest sturgeon in the North channel. the other 4 fish caught this year were no bigger than 20 inches, with a couple smaller than 15. Man those little guys have some sharp spines on em.

Good sign for the future, but I need my fix before the season's over. Be out a few more times before the end of the month. Late season has always produced some bigger fish for us.

GL all,
