just thought i would share my setup with you guys. i started by drying the dirt and sifting to remove the rocks and clumps. next i mixed 5 gallons of dirt with the flake wax and spread it 2" thick on a piece of black visquin. next i used a couple gallon jugs to get the clear visquin up in the air to make something like "A" frame. now just let it sit in the sun for 3-4 hours or until the wax is melted through.

dirt mixed.

Thanks for sharing your system.

I have never tried waxed dirt, but looks like you have a great system.

I'm not a trapper. How is the waxed dirt used?

how much wax do you use per 5 gal of dirt? Do you buy it already flaked or grade it your self? If so what kind of wax do you use would regular trap wax work?

it is used for bedding the trap during freezing conditions. the dirt will not retain water and will not freeze.

i order mine from MN trapline products. http://www.minntrapprod.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1029

Pretty cool idea,

Is this better than adding CaCl2 flakes to dry sifted dirt? Can coyotes smell either one?

Thanks
