Just got back from a two week trip up to Ontario, 4 hours north of Toronto. It was a great trip, got lots of fishing and relaxing in. Caught tons of small mouth, but the Pike were not hitting like in the past. The biggest fish we caught was a 6lber (on a top water frog which was exciting).
Anyway, thought I would post this picture of me and my son. I know he will not remember this, but I sure as hell will. Unfortunatly I only had his attention for a couple minutes, and we did not get any fish, but it was fun to watch him reel in. It won't be long and he will be out there pulling wire with me!

I agree 100% Enjoying the time spent with family and friends outdoors is what is important...and teaching that to our kids and the next generation should be first priority. This is my son with his grandma and grandpa and his first sunfish he caught on Buckhorn Lake, also north of Toronto, in 2004.

Getting children involved at any age is worth more than anything that comes to mind. My son reeled his first salmon in last Saturday while we were fishing out of Manistee. I had to help him by pumping the rod with my fingertip and helping pull the line down while he cranked, but 16 lbs of king salmon is tough for a 6 year old boy to manage! I wish I had a camera with us, but dumb old dad (me) forgot to pack it. I know he will remember it for a long time to come though, he was telling the counter person at the Wesco gas station in Manistee all about it!

my son is 2 and i can't wait till i can get a rod in his hands. he already handles my ugly stiks pretty well in the driveway (although my car wouldn't agree).
only took him out once, when i fished at the spillway, and he and the wife were at the playground across the street. sure enough, right as they showed up, i caught a nice cat. he loved it..... until i threw it in the bucket. then he cried. oh well, i'm sure he'll get used to it.

It took him about 10 tries with a Superman 5 1/2' shakespeare rod and reel and he was casting straight across the yard. He caught this blue gill by himself at a pond in Roshester Hills. His first fish. We just bought a 14 aluminum boat with a Honda motor and trolling motor and he loves it. It did not take much convincing on my part for the wife to agree to the boat. She knows how important it is for das and sons to spend time together. I have another boy that is 20 months and waiting to get more involved. The only problem I have now is trying to get out by myself, and it is hard to get alot of fishing done myself when I am tending to his hooks and worms. So now I am teaching him to use lure;). That will give me more time to fish.
Awesome pic. Next thing you know he'll join you as part of your avatar:)

This is my oldest Grandson's first fish. He was three at the time so this Photo was taken in 1983. The gravel pit at the end of my street. I have fished with hundreds of kids in my 77 years of fishing and it is always the best times on the water. That ten year old last week with that big Muskie made my year. Good Fishing All Bob
This outfit won't let me post a photo always too big. Sorry but it was of course a Bluegill.
