I am looking for tsome help paper tuning my trykon. I have tried everything I can think of to correct my arrow flight thru the paper. The tear is -fletching straight to the right of arrow tip and approx 1 1/2" long. I have a 29" draw, 80%let-off, 67lb pull, 28"easton axis (340's)arrows with 125gr tips. I cant get it any better than this and I have tried shooting different grain tips, more poundage, 400's, I am pretty sure my center position on my rest is good but for giggles I tried moving that left and right and to no avail. If I shoot a bare shaft arrow look out! I get a 4-6 inch long tear. I am at my witts end here does anyone have any thoughts? The worst thing is the guys at the local pro shop dont know what to say either when they tried to paper tune it. I use a mechanical release with a string loop.

May sound a little silly to some, but I see this stuff everyday. It's my job. try a different knock in your arrow. if you are reasonably sure it's not arrow spine or rest, (which I'd check a little closer) the knock might be just a little to tight on the string. Looser knock might work. possible re-serve the center serving if that is the problem. try it. take care and good luck.

I will check my nock, I am using a string loop and I was wondering if it is pinching to tight. Also I am shooting carbon arrows, should I switch to alum?

I don't bother with paper tuning anymore . I do walkback tuning or just group tune with a fixed blade broadheads in relation to field points .

What rest are you shooting? Have you let anyone else shoot it through paper? Just to possibly see if you are torqueing it. Did you buy it new or used?

I have tried a quick tune 2000 drop away and a Ultra rest drop-away. I had the guys at the pro-shop I bought the bow from shoot it just to make sure it wasnt something I was doing and they were getting the same results. I am at my witts end with this thing and I am considering getting rid of it for the bowtech ole glory. I tried switching from feild points to my broadheads and I thought I had it. I had a good paper tear until I stepped out to about 10 yards and it was back to the same thing just not quite as bad. If i wasnt doing so much damage to my target I would tune a little more with the braodheads but I'm going to wait for til I get some new practice blades.
What is "walk back tuning"?
I shoot nice groups, even out to 40yds but I can see the arrow fishtailing the whole way there.
After I bought the bow the proshop staff told me they have been having a lot of trouble tuning these bows with carbon arrows and that guys are just living with it, but for $700.00 plus extras I am not buying that b.s. and I tried to go to another Hoyt dealer and they didnt even want to look at it because I didnt buy it through them. Its all about the money I guess. Maybe I should have just kept my old Onieda...at least it shot straight.

How's the cam lean? Sounds like you need to put a few twists in one of the yoke ears in order to balance out your top control cam. Try dropping to a 100 grain point after you get that straightened out also.
If you have a wrist sling, make sure that there is no tension on it when at full draw. A wrist sling is basically just a safety blanket...it's only there to catch the bow at the shot, not to tighten it down. Lots of guys have tuning problems because their wrist sling is too tight, it should be loose with plenty of give.
Relax your hand as well and make sure your draw length is correct. Having too long of a draw length could play havoc on tuning. The bow's gotta fit you.

I was told by a VERY reliable source that there is a flaw with the Trykon, and it just is TERRIBLE to get paper tuned. Something in the Cam or something. I may be talking trash here but he is someone in the business that I would have to believe.
I shoot a Hoyt and he is a Hoyt shooter. But he cannot get that BOW to tune. Interesting!!

Well, first of all I would like to thank each and everyone of you for all your help. I really appreciated all the help everyone offered. I did figure out the problem thanks to Hilltop sports in Greenville, mi. The problem was a (now get this) bent riser. Apparentley there have been a few trykons with this problem that occured somehow during the manufacturing process. A hoyt rep told them to send the bow in and they are giving me another free of charge so I dont have to wait now that bow season is only a few weeks away. Again thanks to everyone. :D

How did they check the straightness of the riser?

Well, the proshop didnt actually check the straightness of the riser but when they were talking with hoyt the hoyt rep said that was probally the problem because everything else was in good order like the bearings, ect. They did try and adjust the cables to correct the problem but they said they couldnt get it right

Ok....now I see....nobody, including Hoyt, is sure what is wrong with the bow so they make an unsubstantiated guess and send you a new one.
Works for me...when all else fails, honor the warranty and send a new bow out.
I just hope they take your old bow and actually figure outwhat is wrong with it and correct the problem in the future.
Bent riser....;)

I am picking up the new bow tonight after work. I will ask some more questions about the riser and post here later with as much info as I can remember.
