No, they are not lighted. Go slow and you might want to bring a spot light to help locate them. Watch the no wake buoys near the mouth and just past Decker's. That can be a white knuckle ride in the dark.

Nope, the Middle Channel cans aren't lighted either.

There are sections of the Miccle Channel that are no wake for I believe 28' or over and within 200' of shore. I'll try to verify that but me and Walleye Mike were talking about that when I was out on the mc a few weeks ago.

ST. CLAIR RIVER AND CONNECTED WATERS - R281.774.15 - Slow--no wake speed.

(a) The operator of a vessel less than 26 feet in length to exceed a slow--no wake speed when within 200 feet of any shore, dock, or pierhead, and within the jurisdictional boundaries of the state of Michigan.

(b) The operator of a vessel 26 feet or more in length to exceed a slow--no wake speed when within 600 feet of any shore, dock, or pierhead, and within the jurisdictional boundaries of the state of Michigan.

Middle channel wake zones are for 26 ft boats or larger. They must stay 200 ft. from shore and no wake in 2 spots and 600 ft in 2 spots.

Smaller than 26 ft. must stay 200 ft away from shore but no wake restriction.

I got a map that is color coded with wake restrictions for all channels put out by the Avchor bay yachting association. Don't know how to post it here. I keep 1 on each boat.

Mike , if you read what I cut and pasted off the DNR website, it says all boats 26' and longer are no wake 600' from shore from the Black River all the way down the North, Middle, South, Sni Etc..... I think I have seen the maps you are referring to, what they have marked are the areas where the channels do not exceed 1200' in width, and therefore are no wake for vessels 26' and above. The 600' rule for 26' and above is throughout the system in US (MI) waters.

That's what I was thinking Paul. It's kind of tough to get TWO hundred feet from both shores in a lot of areas!

You are right Paul. Lots of those areas in the channels are not 1200' in width. The main river is in most areas but not the channels.

Those big boats (35' +) sure do make a wake. I'm sure many of those boaters don't know or even care about the wake they make in the channels. As long as they are in the middle. Kinda hard to judge 1200' as opposed to 900 or 1000'.

If I can find a way to post this map I got I will.

Welllllllllll, kinda, but this is a biggie:

ST. CLAIR RIVER, NORTH CHANNEL - WC-74-92-001 - Slow--no wake speed.

On the waters of the St. Clair river, north channel, from the intersection of the Sni Bora (Chenal A Bout Rond) downstream 2,500 yards in the north channel in a northwesterly direction, it is unlawful for the operator of a recreational vessel of any length to exceed a slow--no wake speed.

The boundaries of the lines described immediately above shall be marked with signs and with buoys. All buoys must be placed as provided in a permit issued by the Department of Natural Resources and be in conformance with the State Uniform Waterway Marking System.

Read the link provided for every area you intend to go if you aren't certain of the rules. It could save you a pile of grief and dough.

Last time coming from Algonac to Metro at night, I took the cutoff and most of those buoys are lit. It's still a bit unnerving trying to distinguish the red and greens from possible moving vessels. We made it no problem but I'm always stressed during the ride. :( I tried the middle channel in fog last year and polished my props a bit. :yikes:
