Sounds like what I went through yesterday (wed), I also took off from 11 mile all the way to sturgeon hole for cats....way too windy and the weeds were terrible, follows line down all the way to snap and hook. No fish, but a ton showing up on my fish finder. Had all the bait...worms,shrimp,chicken livers and hotdogs. Only fished 20 minutes and left for the long ride against the wind back to 11 mile. I should have known better and not went. Oh well. Will be there again when weather gets better. tightlinesyall

Wind is certainly playing havoc with the fishermen!! I just made some adjustments on my boat instead of going out and fighting the wind....installed a new rear light more towards the center of the rear of boat and higher so as to be out of my eyesite when fishing...should be able to see a little better now without any glare!....just getting ready for that fall night bite!!;)

Hey Steve, you ought to launch at Alter or St. Genes if you fishing the Sturge hole. Less Run, and more Fun.....

Yes. From Jefferson Take alter all the way down to the end. Follow the curve to the right, the launch is just to your right, about the second driveway. Stop at the little shed, get an envelope, write your plate # on it and put $5.00 in it. Open all night, was kinda dark last time I was there.

The guy that owns Alter Rd. launch lives right next door to the ramp. I have never had any problems launching down there, either at night or morning.,....The guy watches the place very well......Plus he has 2 very large Rotts that he could sik on any wanderers going into the lot to ponder vehicles...

Actually it's a pit and some sort of big mean hound lookin dog. I've gone to Alter Rd. launch at least 20 times this year (night/day) with no problems!

Had a blast Sunday, caught a dozen cats, few silver bass, 2 sheaphead both over 24 inches long! One of the cats was HUGE!!! Its head was as big as mine. Shrimp and chicken livers did nothing, got all fish on worms, red circle hook. Weeds were kinda bad, but a split shot two feet from snap kept weeds off my bait. Catfish fishing is a blast, and what a fight they put up. All fish released. tightlinesyall

I am not sure what the mouth of the Det. River is anymore. Someone says it is the end down by Lake Erie;) ;) .
Was out yesterday, Labor Day, and fished for just under 5 hours on the upper river. I did move around a bit and spent some time near the Garwood hole and over by the 113 Bouy but mostly up by the "Old 8 Can". Ended up with a limit but only caught 4 Walleye while pulling wire. The fifth fish came flying through the air and landed inside the boat. It was legal size and fresh so I put it in the cooler.
What really happened was that I saw Hot-Wired out there and he was ready to go in. Hie had caught one Walleye so he tossed it into the boat. At that time I already had 3 so the new one made 4. About 10-15 minutes later I picked up another one for 5 in the cooler. Gotta say thanks for that tastey fish.
Watching the fish hit the side of the boat and slide to the floor reminded me of that famous quote found in the book THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY by Douglas Adams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Adams). The quote was "So long and thanks for all the fish."
The lure for all 4 of the fish I caught was a #9 Rapala in the Clown paint pattern. I caught two of the fish on the top leader and then I moved that lure to the 15 footer and caught the second two. But, it was the same lure.

i would consider the mouth in lsc. not sure considering the mouth of most rivers is where it dumps into the lake...ok, wait it came to me technically lsc would be the head of the detroit river and erie would be the mouth right??
btw i was referring to lsc/dr.

I have always heard of the mouth of the Det. River being where LSC empties into the river up at Peche Isle.
The end of the St. Clair River with that large delta would be the mouth of Lake St. Clair.
Where the Detroit River empties into Lake Erie would be the mouth of Lake Erie.
But, no matter what, they are calling for light and variable winds by tonight on LSC so maybe it will be worth an attempt to head into the upper stretches of the DR and see what is there. Water temps this morning were 69 degrees.

Ramp was O.K., keep your motor up stay in middle. Thanks for the directions, I will use it again. As I was puttin out to the river there was a guy that saw me coming and waited in the river until I got out, good idea, something I will do also. Although two boats could probably pass each other. Fished Sturgeon hole in the rain with crawlers, got white perch, sheaphead (some nice size)and one rock bass, dozen 8-10 inch channel cats along with 6 nice cats all over 5 lbs. Made a few moves. tightlinesyall

You can also go out the other way. It is a bit longer. Leave the ramp by going to the west and then make a right and then a left into the sailboat canal. Avoid taking the very shallow "Tommy's Canal".
It is a longer ride before the river, buy only by a couple of minutes. This puts the boater into the deeper and wider canals with enough room for two boats to pass each other.

I can't wait until ice. Anyways, my dad kept 3 and gave 3 to his bud, they cut off head, skin and with a cleaver cut into 1/2 inch steaks(with bone). Wash in salt water, then heavy season and fry kinda well done. We are going to try smoking some soon. When we do I will let ya know how they come out. seeya and tightlinesyall
