Transom on a 10' Aluminum fishing boat??

O.k, I have (actually am going to borrow) a 10' alumium fishing boat and also I have a 3.5 HP 2 stroke outboard motor I want to put on it. My question is what can I do if the motor shaft is to short to reach the water when I hook it on the boat? My motor has a 17" shaft on it. I do not have the boat in my posession yet but I am just bracing for the motor not to be long enough.

Is there a way to mount something on the boat if the motor is not long enough?

You should not have a problem with that motor on a 10' boat. I have a 12' and put an old 1920 1and 1/2 on it and get around ok.
