I took my niece (2 1/2) fishing for her first time on Sunday. I haven't gone bobber fishing in years, so it was a bit of a learning/remembering experience for me as well. It took a little while to get into any fish, but she was surprisingly patient and did pretty well.

After about twenty minutes of waiting she finally got her first fish. She brought it in fine, but was pretty hesitant to do anything more than just pet it.

After a couple more hours and a few more fish she decided she was done and just sat in her chair watching me fish. I switched over to throwing a white spinnerbait and brought in a few decent bass. This was the first one and when she saw it in the water she begged me not to bring it into the boat. She said she only likes to catch "baby fish". She did allow me to take it into the boat and keep it long enough to snap a picture though.

Overall she did very well. I think we spent about four hours on the water, which was about three and a half more hours than I expected her to last out there.

SPECTACULAR!!!!! And to stay out for 4 hours. You probably got her hooked on fishing already!!! Good job getting another youngster out on the lake!!!

I started my daughter out when she was just about 2.5yrs old with catching tons of 2-3" gills, etc. She lasted about 2.5-3 hours provided I packed her a "picnic lunch" , that's the best part of the whole outing for her. This year I moved her into bigger fish, she caught a ton of rock bass and bigger gills a couple of perch and one 8" LM. Now it's time to throw away the Scooby Doo rod and get her something better. She's taken a liking to my 4' ultra lite w/ open face spinning reel, grrrr:lol: I'm going to find her one of those finger trigger spinning reels and a 4-5' ultra light.

That's cute! I enjoyed the part about her not wanting you to bring the Bass in the boat. :p Wait till she sees her 1st Muskie! :yikes: Great job Uncle Dutch! :)

Looks like she had fun, I got the chance to take my niece out Saturday too. She is a little more older being 13 she would lip the smallie but was real shy about holding the walleye she caught. First thing she saw was teeth and then had a hard time holding it by grabbing it in the middle. Just keep on taking them and the interest will be there.
