I'm gonna be up at my parents over the labor day holiday. They are south of Alpena in Black River/Harrisville area.

I want to take my 3.5 year daughter fishing for the first time and was looking for a recomendation for a good lake in the area for panfish so she can have some easy success. I would also like to find a lake that maybe has a boat rental (row boat) so we can actually get out off the bank.

Thanks in advance,

J-

Try any of the impoundments of the Thunderbay River. Gills are plentiful right now along weedbeds that butt up to the main river channel. Contact Campers Cove on Long Rapids Rd (Alpena). They offer camping, a bluegill pond, and boat and pontoon rental. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies,

I thought the trout ponds on Lakeshore where closed, atleast I never see anyone at them when I am there.

We have been to trout ponds down where we live and while she had a blast, she realizes that it is not "real" fishing like when I go. She wants to go "real" fishing like me,LOL.

Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Just north of Alpena is Long Lake and Grand Lake, both have decent fisheries and both lakes have places that rent boats.

Give Bud or Lorie a shout at Bucks, they can direct you! http://www.bucksbait.com/

When I was 3 - 7 or so, my parents and grand parents always took me to the boat harbor. I would sit on the docks for hrs fishing. Remember it like it was yesterday! IT WAS a long time ago though. Nels/Skeeter

JJC, your welcome! I love that whole NE area. My little one and I will be up to the Black River in late September, early October. We'll be there to camp and do a little "fishing", which does not imply "catching". :) ;) :shhh:

Nels/SkeeterWe'll try up there in the early fall. JUst about all the "boat people" leave PI harbor right after Labor Day. We'll start to fish off the docks and off the rocks once they're gone, not until then. ;)

For pan fish, smallies, perch and walleye your best bet is either Long or Grand Lakes. ;)
