I use a few split shot below 2 hooks so the bait is right on the bottom.

Make sure the dropper lines are 3 inches long per the new regulations.

If you fish out of a boat you can use 16p nails for weight they are cheaper than sinkers.
From shore I use Thill type floats with a #8 hook and minnow, and splitshots for weight.
Cool diagram MIKE !!!!

do you ever use the pre-made perch rigs similar to your diagram or do you tie it together yourself

I tie myself cause its way cheaper. I aslo usually use split-shot on the bottom so it can come off with a snag without losing the whole rig.

What size split-shot do you use on a calm day wiht your set up?

Straight from DNR C/O that they will allow perch fisherman to continue tie single hooks directly to their lines. The new law is meant to prevent illegal snagging in the rivers.

I've had decent luck with those quick connect plastic things, forget exactly what they're called. this allows me to change up things really quickly. i.e. hook size, bead color, etc. Been doing decent off of metro beach the last couple days.

I use fairly heavy ones they are the size of a marble. I use two in stiffer current. And go heavier depending on conditions.
ifish4eyes: I have better luck with a leader than tying it straight to the line.
MSUICEMAN: I used to use those however recently I am just using 1 line and excluding them.

WHAT ABOUT A SPREADER ?

They also work but I like the advantages of my diagram.
1.When you set the hook your not pulling a ton ofweight too.
2.You can fish different heights easier and also adjust depth easier.
3.It cost far less than a spreader.
4.If you snag your less likely to loose your entire rig.
5.Less mass for the fish to detect.

Sorry to question this Ifish....
I didnt think that this is related to a new rule. According to 2001 fishing guide....it is unlawful to
"Have a weight ... suspended below any hook unless the hook is on a dropper line (e.g. a leader) that is at least 3" long.
Maybe I am wrong in my interpretation?

Well Johnny, here is my 2 cents. If you fish Canada, I use 3 hooks (size 4). I usually use Perch or Crappie rigs with ¾ once sinker and the 3rd hook is attached at the sinker. That hook is very effective. The minnow will lay on the bottom and wiggle attracting many strikes. Beads are usually not nnecessary if the fish are at all active. If you fish the US, you can only use 2 hooks but I would keep in mind that bottom dropper hook. Hopefully this is still OK with the new regs. When Perch are active, the rig is secondary. The more important part is finding active fish. Since my fishfinders do not pick up Perch that are on the bottom in the weeds, find a good weed bed and anchor on it. Weeds that have snails attached are usually the best. Start pounding your mudder anchors (I like to use about 18 in. of chain attached to the mudder and a couple of loose bolts through the holes in the mudder). If you can't attract them in after 10 or 15 minutes, make a move. Again, the rig is secondary. Finding and attracting the fish is much more critical! Hope this helps a little. Good luck, John
By the way, I fish LSC so other lakes may have dirrerent structures that hold the Perch.

I fish for perch mostly on Erie. Very little structure on the bottom of Brest bay. I use pretty much the same method as Tattoo does except I use a short leader about 3 inches on the top hook and a longer one on the bottom hook, About 12 inches. I put a real small split shot on the bottom leader about three inches away from the hook. That way the hook is away from the main weights but the small split shot keeps the bait on the bottom. I use quick connects also, they are great for adjusting or changing baits without tearing everything apart. My main weights depend if I am anchored or drifting. The faster the boat moves the heavier the weight. I also use the large splitshot for main weight. easy to add or remove weight.
