In an effort to lower my monthly support of Exon, Mobile, Speedway, Citgo, etc... I traded my $290 a month, 11 mpg Dodge Ram in on this Wed. afternoon.

2002 Ford Escape XLT
3.0 L V6
AWD/4x4
16" wheels
Continental Contitrac tires with 2000 miles on them
6 disc changer (which will soon be replaced by my 600 watt Alpine system)
Trailer Package
Extended drawbar (I had to buy it) to help eliminate bumping into the coupler with the plastic bumper cover.
3500 lb towing capacity
Higher gas mileage than the Dodge!! Though I just put the first full tank in it so I don't know how much higher it will be. Has to be higher though!!!
Lower monthly paymet.
Cheaper to insure believe it or not.
And yes, the plate is getting old and faded... had it on 4 vehicles now over the span of about 14 years.

you might consider blurring your plate number - for privacy's sake.

Congrats on the new wheels.

Congrats

I am considering doing the same. My F150 doesn't ahve enough room in the back seat for my son anymore and gas is too high. That Escape has the same tow capacity as the Explorer huh? Cool, hope the MPG is what you want.

Why worry about it??
I know where Mikey lives and I haven't stolen that NICE U of M Flag off'n his porch!!!
LOL!

I'm still lookin' at a Tacoma Mike & the wife got paid this week so it ain't gunna be long - just gotta figure if I wanna go with the STD 3500LB capacity or the towing pkg. rated @ 6500LBS.
I kinda thought you'd go with that Escape... Nicer to fill the tank I bet!
Hope she works well for you.

I'd be doing the same if it weren't for the fact that I'm driving a 1999 Rodeo without any payments. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. At 15 miles/gal, having 140k on it and having to put about what seems to be $500(mostly typical replacement stuff) into it evey three months or so, I'm right on that fence where I might just be breaking even on the whole venture.

This should work out for ya since you were already making a payment. Nice vehicle!!

Yeah, I thought about it when I posted it but then I figured... I drive a TON of miles every year so a TON of people see my plate every day... none of them have given me any grief so what the heck.

Ras, took 44.50 to fill it from empty with the "put gas in me you idiot" light on. My truck would have taken nearly $75 to do the same.

I'll give a mileage report after it gets down a little ways and I can top it off again. Even if it gets "only" 15 mpg towing the 'Tron, that's still 4 mpg better than the Dodge got EMPTY!!!

don't worry about the plate. My understanding is the police have convinced the state to issue everyone with a blue plate and new one, no extra charge. Sorry if it has sentimental value :(

Would be curious what you get for fuel econ towing the boat. I had a Toyota 4-runner for a short time that was a gas hog when towing. My fullsize GM truck got better fuel economy.

Give us post when you get the numbers!

Yeah, I was actually surprised I was allowed to transfer this plate again. Like I said, it's OLD! But man, I'd hate to have to learn another plate number... When my license renewal comes up in Dec. I'm going to get a new plate... I need one of the University of Michigan ones... Need... not want. NEED!

My first full tank of fuel will be a mixture of freeway driving to work and back, and short range towing of my approx. 1000 lb Glastron (loaded with all my gear it MIGHT weigh that much). So it will be a good indication of how it will treat me over the long run.

$44.50???
0000000000000000oooooooW....
My turdsocket hurts!!

:yikes:

Well my GMC 1500WT has a 34 Gallon tank plus I can sqeak a few more bucks up into the neck -so if I'm on "E" like you said earlier.... $102 is easily surpassed. Dan gets abt. 13.4MPG out of his Dakota with that big fat ProV Tracker strapped on , so you should do just fine.
:D
Lets' hope she's a dependable ride for you.
