Does anyone know anything about this club? I got some stuff in the mail yesterday and I am wondering if it is worth signing up or is it pretty much a scam. It is $1/month for dues and they will send you hunting gear to try out and then you can keep it. Thanks.

They used to include a magazine with membership - I suspect that they still do. When I received the magazine my opinion was that it was of solid quality, and worth the $14/year.
Their claim that you will "field test hunting gear" is a marketing scheme, pure and simple. Only a very tiny percentage of their members ever receive products to test.
More than anything, "membership in the club" equates to receiving a magazine subscription.

it"s not worth it. they don;t send any stuff worth having. they also send you books every month that are way over priced that you either pay for or send back at around $10.00 a pop. IMO they are only trying to make a buck off of you. just my .02

The North American Hunting "Club" is not really a club in any real traditional sense. It is a commercial, for profit, business. That said, the magazine is OK, but not anything outstanding. As for the product testing, if you keep your profile up to date, you will eventually get to test something. I've been a "member" for about 12 to 15 years; and over that time span I've tested three items. The first two were rinky-dink two or three dollar items, but the last was a LED lantern which they said had a retail price of $50. It was probably really worth $25 or $30; but it was of good quality and most importantly free!
As for receiving unsolicited merchandise in the mail, be aware that the US postal regulations do not require that you pay for them or return them. Just keep any items sent and don't pay. I'll predict that the unordered merchandise flow will come to an abrupt end.

After getting countless offers in the mail from NAHC I finally bit the bullet and joined last year. This year I promptly cancelled my membership. Here's why. Early this year, I think it was January, I recieved from the NAHC a notice that I was drawn for a lifetime membership. The notice said that they would send me all the proper paperwork, and that I was drawn from the entire membership to include this valuable prize. The lifetime membership is worth in the neighborhood of $350-400. So I sent all the paperwork back thinking that I would have all the lifetime membership advantages. To my surprise, I began recieving notice that my lifetime membership dues were overdue and this was the "last notice". Having no telephone number to call the club, I got onto their website and found an e-mail address, to which I sent with my request for an explanation. They e-mailed back stating that they do not offer lifetime memberships via any kind of drawing, and that my account was indeed overdue. So, what I feel is that the NAHC is a profit-oriented outfit that does not honor their word. I believe that the announcement of my winning a membership was a scam to try to get me to actually pay for the lifetime membership. I told them in my e-mail that I would like to cancel my membership, but they are still sending me what I now consider junk-mail.

:) - I received the same rinky dink communication from them when I decided not to renew after the first year.
They sent mailings with envelope messages such as "account overdue" and letters which claimed that I was in risk of "having my membership revoked" .
It was through the sequences of "collection letters" they sent that I developed a full sense of what a group of buffoons they are. From my perspective they have zero credibility in respect to their "club".

I have been a member of the NAHC since last December. The magazine is pretty good, and you do get to field test products as long as you keep your profile up to date. I was chosen as a field tester 4 months into my membership and while the item I tested was a $20 item, I have already gotten my money back and then some on the membership.
They are a for profit organization, and if you don't read the correspondance you get in the mail from them correctly, you may get baited into something that you are unaware of. Just make sure you read through everything thoroughly before committing to anything.
I will continue to pay my dues simply for the use of their bulletin boards and the magazine. I have people all over the U.S. that I can communicate with and I have made some friendships here in Michigan that will last a lifetime!!! IMO, it's worth it just for that. Make up your own mind, but I say it's worth the $12/year to be a member.

I see nothing has changed with that group.
They did the same thing to me years ago.

Not much hunting talk on the michigan BB. They tend to talk on the net more than anything else. Cant hardly post a thread that would stay on topic for long because of the post padders. They post on every single topic without really adding anything except to their post total. A couple of knuckle head types about run off many of the newbies with their surly remarks. The core group plans meat and greets about once a month. Too many really. They end up with a very small turnout for most of them. If they would have only like 4 a year they would get much bigger turn outs. The core group has become pretty close friends from the BB.
It is a commercial web site more than anything now. They send out flyers trying to sell the members gear at inflated prices all the time. If you shop around you can get the same for half the cost. I guess it is alright for what it is. Dont think I would tell someone to join for the free gear. Its mostly given to the life members and then the general membership. The field test products are about once per year and most are less than $10 in value. Their TV show is decent enough but it seems to be the president and his close cronnies doing all the hunting. On the memeberships money of course. He has a good deal going for himself. Smart man to come up with the idea of the NAHC.

I was a member and simply put....I wouldn't rejoin. There are better magizines and clubs to belong to if you really want club benefits.

I was a member for a couple of years, my brother is a lifetime member and he has received several items to test (Knives, Binocs straps and scents) I discontinued because I was getting about 8 different magazines a year and I worked it down to 3. I get frustrated with the Buckmaster calls that I get 4 or 5 times a year.

I have been a life member for about 12 years. When I joined I received a free leather coat and a belt buckle. The magazine is great. I get a test product about once a year. Nothing great but what the heck. As for them sending stuff in the mail. Just return it and write don not send anything else as it will not be returned or paid for on it. Thats what I did and they have not sent any thing to my house other than test items or the magazine. I think it's great.
