what size line should i use for walleye in st. clair? i'd like to go light but with the incidentals, i'm leaning to 14#.
what are some good colors for this time of year in the shipping channel?

Personally I'd go with 17-20 lb Big Game or fluorocarbon (Anything but Vanish). I'll sometimes switch to 12-14 lb if the fish aren't hitting, but IMO it just does not hold up very well to all the zebra muscles and multiple fish. If you frequently check for wear marks you'll be fine with 12-14 lb test, but I just got sick of losing big fish to unseen marks in the line.

17 LB Vanish Flourocarbon. It works wonders. I've caught hundreds of Eyes in LSC this year and every year (for that matter) on it. Also landed plenty of the stray Ski that hits a harness. It's plenty tough enough, I wouldn't lie to ya. If anyone has a problem with this line or it's toughness, then they need to be talking about how they fight a fish, not which line or which knot to use.:p

Well Scott, I always tend to agree with you but not this time. I think they named it Vanish because that is what tends to happen to the fish on the end of your line. :D ;) I think there are much better flouros out there but you usually have to pay for what you get and they are definitely more expensive. I've always used 14 lb Stren but then again, maybe that is why you smoked me so bad the other day!!!! BTW, I did buy a dozen bouncers the other day and replaced the snaps with some good ones. :)

Well John, I ain't gonna argue with you. 17 LB. vanish works for me, but whatever works for you, stick with it. I catch alot of Eyes on my vanish Harness', but you catch alot (probably more) too, so whatever works for you, keep using what your using.:)

Good conversation. I have been tying using harnesses for over 30 years with great success. For the past 10 or so years, I have used Trilene XT 17 lb test, but am considering changing to one of the new flourocarbon. One question I have is that my harnesses tend to get all twisted up after a bit (an hour or so) of slow trolling, I usually take it off and replace then re-tie the harness later, do you guys have the same problem? I use a high quality ball bearing snap/swivel to attach tothe mainline, but I still get the twisting

Ive had my harnesses "twist" also when using XT. I switched to 15lb Berkly Big Game and never looked back.

I have found that the thinner the line the more twist will come to the leader for some reason. I have taken to using 20 LB cheap line that is thick and it works like a champ. I used swivels on all leaders and with thinner line I also get line twist, kind of weird but that is what I have found.
