What damage if any would occur if a bow mount 12V trolling motor is accidently started and ran for several hours dry/not in the water????

I would think that it would spin too fast. This could result in bearing problems. It might hurt the brushes and cummtator but I doubt it. It could overheat some windings and melt the insulation on them.

any damage to the deck of the boat...dont know how many times my autpilot was on somehow my tackle bag on the continous button out there spinning but least its far enough away not to hurt the boat and it was on low speed

Didn't hit anything on the boat. I was in the boat yesterday, parked inthe garage doing some cleaning and stuff and was working on the pedal and must have accidently kicked it on when I was getting out of the boat.....probably ran for an hour or so on level 4 out of 10. Seemed fine when I finally noticed it and shut it off.
I always keep the pedal stowed just for that reason but had it out adjusting stuff and like I said I must have accidently kicked it into the on position:mad: .
Motor is not making any type of noise what so ever and hopefully there won't be any lasting problems.

Guess yah never saw the commercial I think for one of the battery companies. Its where the guy at the cabin uses his trolling motor for a fan at the cabin hooked up to the battery. Then he takes off fishing. If it not making no noise and is not wobbling I would say it did no damage at all.
