Tried a few of the new plastic billed Hot N Tots recently. Anybody else have problems with them going out of tune? Running these along the bottom and they get knocked out of whack a lot easier than the old metal long clip type. The new ones have a regular eyelet and O-ring. Running these in the Bay on suspended fish do they get knocked off tune just as quick? Storm also puts a nice pretty scale pattern on the front bills that once out of the box this gets removed on the first pass ticking bottom.

I have never had a poblem with them getting out of tune but did have a few break the lips clean off and lose the body. I like the new plastic lips way more than the old metal ones. I think the old ones used to get out of whack way to easily.
p.s. I drag them on bottom in the trenton channel

I hate the new plastic billed hot-n-tots. They break easy when fishing rocks, which is what a hot-n-tot does best. When I come across old metal ones on the shelf, I buy them all. If you can't get it tuned, try tying it on with a rapala loop knot.

Storm (bought by Rapala) went back to the metal lip, in fact I am looking at it in the Bass Pro shops book now. Warts too are now the original design supposedly.
Except for the plastic lips breaking off a couple I do quite well on them.
As for tuning, I never had to myself. I did get 13 in a row without loosing any of em one year on the same plastic lipped 'tot I found in a tree, before the river reclaimed it.

They are easy to tune - throw 'Em in the back of an old tackle box and forget them. Make the switch over to Winning Steaks or Mean Streaks - way better colors too ! Dave makes a much better product - Bob

I have some of the winning streaks couple of decent colors. One in particular has been a good one is 05-Met.Purple/Yel/Squiggles which you should like Bob MR. Purple Demon. Looked at Dave's website and might have to get some of the new colors with prism color on them. Going to stay with the old metal lips and bigger clip lures instead of the plastic lip with eyelets on them I guess. Guess bouncing off bottom once in a while anything will get knocked out of whack.

It appears they discontinued the plastic lipped tot's but there are still some in the stores. My 2006 Bass Pro book shows only metal lipped lures available.
They screwed up the thunderstick as well by having a separate bill, I think they corrected that too but not positive. As stated there are some other lures makers with the better lures and I bought them instead.
Checked my catalog again, it states the original design thunderstick is back also.
Why did they even screw with them?
