West side piers question

With fall coming and knowing the fish will be coming in. What's the best time to plan a trip to the west side ? Late August - middle of September or early October ?

Not to sound at all like a smartass, but now would be a good time :) I have been getting 1st hand reports all morning and I am stuck at work.

any time the wind blows east.here at the joe anyways.a east northeast blow will make the lake flip and bring the fish to the pierheads.summer and fall.with this east wind we've had the last couple days the fishin at the pierheads has taken off.steelies and kings.i took 11 on the 10th with a nice 20lb king in the river between the pierheads.so if the winds gonna blow east plan your trip.as far as the king run.sept thru oct,depending on the weather of course.the king i took in the river was pretty dark.looked like he'd been in the river for awhile.so,anytime the wind blows east.check out the pic in the fishing report forum,st joe report 8/10.

Ugly working on a Saturday when everyone else is out playing on the piers isn't it Quest.:( Being an eastsider I'll wait and see what kinda info is provided. If...and that's a big if .:rolleyes: The eastside provides any fish I may stay on the piers in lower Lake Huron. But that's a mightyt big if. Usually I've already started by now with Harbor Beach but the last few years have been somewhat of a waist.:sad:

I can tell you that they are NOT in at Grand Haven yet. I just got back from spending 6 hours on the North pier and saw 1 King and 1 Steelie caught by about 50-60 guys fishing:mad: . We were one of the first groups there (3AM) and saw the Steelie caught before we had a chance to set up (Looked like it was going to be a great day :p ). That was the only fish I saw until about 8 AM. Oh well it was better than working. I'll try again in a few weeks.

Yes I got stuck working today also:mad: but I'm getting ready to leave now:) .

Can wait to hit the piers on the west side for the first time ever, thinking the weekend of August 26th. Have to go buy a couple more baits and I'm al set.

Mike, hold up on the 26th and let's see what input the others have on the westside. Would like to see you catch a real fish !:fish: :p Would be nice to get a group of eastsiders to meet up over there.;) So far it's maybe 3 or 4 of us.:)

Might need a netman:p tonite...........will call later. Coulda used one Thursday night. We came home with 10.:coolgleam

Started this thread for Off the Wall's benefit. He's never tagged a large fish off a pier and I'd like to see the thrill on his face. ;) Lookin for more input as time draws near. Common fella's let's build his confidence level with more input. Thanks and keep the info coming.

If I had to choose between those three, I'd pick middle September. I limited out all three trips I took in September last fall in Manistee, nothing big though.

How does Sept. 8,9 and 10 sound. I think I will take a Friday and a Monday off of work, that should make for a good weekend.

Are there any other members that want to meet up for the weekend, or should I make a post in the Outing forum.

Headed that way the weekend of September 8th.(I took the 11th off just to recuperate:lol: ) Off the wall - Lost another one - Stinger63 and myself. Any one else wish to meet up with this motely crew of pier rats ?
