Per some recent conversations with some perchers. Fish are in 5-7 foot of water and suspended a foot or two below the surface. Seems a bit strange to me. Would bigger fish be in deeper water? How would you catch these perch? Small jig tipped jig spinner tipped with a crawler? Bobber maybe.

I know but I find slip bobbers a bit boring.
Man what was I thinkig. Perch= waste of time unless you know for a fact that you can catch a limit of jumbos in a short amount of time. Can perch even bite you back. I think I will save the perch for through the ice.

You could throw little tube jigs for them. We used to catch them like that all the time off of a gravel bar on Lake Ogemaw,

Man I have tried those little tube jigs with some success but it seems they usually get outfished by a hook and a crawler.

Hey, a bass will make every attempt to bit you when given the chance. As for carp... everyone has their vices. LOL!!

Wes, if you're thinking of bigger fish on the bottom ... try a #2 or #3 jiggin rap, either naked or tipped with a little piece of minnie. OR the old fashoned perch/speck rig with minnies.
If it is those suspended fish you are after, and they are up high .... take the little ones out with you, along with some reg old bobbers and some minnies.

I may just have to set up my minnow trap. If you trap minnows in one body of water can you fish with them in another? I would think so same as if you are buying them at the shop just dont let them go.
Last time out seems like fish were pretty concentrated. May hit it this weekend.
