I am getting ready to go up to Brevoort Lake in the U.P. and from what I understand the perch are biting in deeper water. I guess this lake is generally 20-25 feet deep.

My question is, being a rookie perch fisher is how deep are perch usually? Should I make sure my line is touching the bottom of 25 feet for my best chance to land some perch? Or is it better to suspend it 5 or 10 feet off the bottom?

Second question, what set ups work best for perch in deep water? Just a simple hook and sinker with a minnow or worm? Or are there lures out there that work good?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am leaving next week. :)

You can fish the deeper water around the rocky point that extends out in the lake, but let me warn you the perch are stunted in that lake majorly. i remember a few summers ago we camped on the lake and must have caught a 100 perch all under 6 inches.
