Alright all you sportspeople. If you guys and gals had just one lure to choose from to fish all species. What would your choice be. Mine personally would be a 1/4 ounce jig with a white 3 inch tail. Im kinda interested in the results from this post.

Thanks, Grizzly

Crawler harnesss if you consider this a lure. If not hot-n-tot.

A Shad Rap. They are realistic and versatile and i have caught perch, crappie, tons of bass, pike, steelhead, walleye, and big muskies on them. But most of all, because they are deadly on sheepshead.

My favorite is the small swedish pimple silver or with green tape. We'd slam the walleyes and big perch on it thought the ice around metro beach.

I sat here thinking for a few minutes and couldnt come up with a decision. I have different lures for different fish. I love to panfish and you can't catch a gil on anything big. so I guess I would have to say crawler harness as well. If not that then it would have to be a jig but i'd still have to have more than one size. Ok I could never choose, lol boy am I glad I don't have to.

I was just commenting this past weekend how I could never find time to fish all the lures I own.:D

3/8 oz orange jig with a pack of 3" white power grubs. I have caught steelhead, coho, browns, lakers, bass, walleye, perch, panfish, pike, drum, and carp on that jig combo.

Shad-Rap--the universal bait. Size: 7 or 8. Color: Perch

If I had to rely on a single lure, it would be a 1/16 or 1/32 ounce plain lead jig with a small white twister tail.
It'll catch anything from panfish on up.

If everyone only had one lure, I would go with a 12 inch Woody. I have never used one before but when the word gets out that I'm the guy with the 12 inch Woody, who knows what I'll catch. I just hope they have a cure for it!!!

Well i would have to say the good old floating stick lure from Rapala. Gray/silver with a white bottom.

Since I'm primarily a panfisherman I'd have to go with a 2" Worm Rival. Those little suckers catch everything from 3" perch to 18" bass.

Its so hard to choose...but I would have to say a #2 silver Mepps Aglia. I like to cast!

I would go with a crawler harness, double blades and three hooks perch, gills, walleye, pike, bass, crappie all have taken a harness for me of course i was usually targeting the walleye.

If you go by the only lure that's in the US Army survival kit, it would have to be a 1/8 ounce leadhead jig, unpainted. I think I'd want paint though- either chartruese or orange. If I had to choose 1, it would probably be a 1/8 or 1/16 ounce red leadhead jig with a black chenile body and yellow feathers for a tail. I've gotten perch, bass, crappie, walleye, sheepshead, pike, cats, even one 18# carp on the 1/16 ouncer! :) Shocked me when I got that one... no bait or anything!

for trolling, i have never found anything to outfish an f-7 flatfish(inland waters) casting , until last year i would have went with a clatter tad, but i am now leaning toward the rapala taildancer.....big water i'll leave to the guys that know it better than i

I little twister tail that is clear with metallic specks. The jig is yellow with black eyes. This has caught bluegills, perch, bass, walleye, steelhead, northerns, and many crappie. A good all around bait.

Thanks to all you guys that replied, kinda neat to see what everyone's goto bait is. Sometimes i will take all the tackle right out of the boat and limit myself into one bait just to learn more about it. Sometimes i get carried away when chasing fish and forget the simple things that seem to always produce. Really looking forward to putting the winter boat away and getting the summer boat out.

Thanks again.
Grizzly.

I heard that a quarter stick 40% with a 15 second fuse works well for all species! Trouble is you need to get a permit from the sherrif for this lure!

Try electro-shock poles: lots quieter than dynamite....
Seriously, If I had to choose one lure, it would be a #2 Mepps, silver blade, gold body and feather dressing on the treble. works for Crappie, bass, pike, walleye, trout. steelhead/salmon

I would have to agree with Whale!!

Silver and black floating Rapala!!
I've caught bass, perch, blue gill, walleye, pike, trees, docks and almost a segull or two with this bait. Multipal presentations for a variety of fish!!:D Gotta love it!!

Crooked creek tackle's 4in. tube. These things are just loaded with salt. Color would have to be; 127SL eriegreen\gold. I'll weight it as conditions dictate(light as i can get away with), sometimes i'll fish it with no weight and an offset hook, in the thick stuff.

If forced, I'd have to decide between the silver and black floating Rapala and any 1/2 ounce monster Panther-Martin. I'd take the Panther-Martin becuase, like Young Steve, I've caught everything on them. The have great action and hum through the water like a scared junebug! Escpecially with the all-black or all-gold varieties, I've caught pike, bass, pumpkinseeds, bullheads walleye, sheepsheads and more on these. If I had a dime for every one I lost to an underwater log or rock, too.......

If I could only have one to do it all...I would probably go with a 1/4 oz jig with a beetle spin.
The only reason I choose this is because I see lots of other people on here that have listed Rapalas so I'd just borrow one from them :D

For walleye, trolling a hammered chrome blade crawler harness behind a bottom bouncer. Thats the first rig I put out, then all the other stuff.

Number 6 gold pre-snelled Eagle claw hoow, two split shots, and a thill bobber if it's less than 6 feet deep. 1/3 crawler for bait.

Fer Sure SFK...If It didn't have to be a "Lure" I would Definateley choose a Hook, Some Splitshot, and a "Strike Indicator...As long as I would be allowed to use any kind of Live Bait I could find!:D

I've read all these posts and not one person picked a Rapala Husky-Jerk Suspending stickbait in silver & blue. This little critter has caught more lunker Pike and just about anything else that craves minnow's. If you haven't tried one, by all means get to the tackle shop and pick one up. Cast, Jerk, Jerk, Jerk... Bam! Fish On!!! What a friggen riot!!!

Just to expand this discussion a bit....
Say you were told that you were going to be dropped off by some body of open water, could be river, stream, lake or salt water, anywhere in the world, any time of the year. Further, let's say that there are catchable fish (but you don't know what kind) within casting distance from shore. You may choose ONE pole, reel, line and ARTIFICIAL lure. You may use any type of equipment (swivels, wire leaders, sinkers, floats, etc) that go between the lure and the pole. You are NOT allowed to take any replacement tackle, i.e., if you lose what you have, you are SOL.
What setup would you use.....?

grizzly
03-07-2002, 04:00 PM
Definetly would have to go with my 7' im8 rod with 6-20 lb spiderwire with a quantum e5 spinning real with a large silver and chartruese rapala on a sampo ball bearing swivel. That thing will catch just about anything.

Grizzly.

I gotta agree with gsepan, the Husky Jerk is a fish catchin' machine! But I will also agree with others, its hard to compete with a Rapala stick bait in Black and Gold. I also use silver/blue and silver/black and perch but the gold/black seems to out fish them all 2 to 1.

Anyway, the first person that tells me I can only use one lure for the rest of time, better be able to run fast or dodge bullets, cause it ain't happenin'!
