I realized something today--I am in a rut. Every weekend I go fishing and everytime I pull out my Senkos. The lake that I fish is pretty weedy and The senkos work pretty well, but I need some variety. So please give me some ideas what should try? I do have some spinerbaits and chatterbaits but they don't do much. I would love to fish another type of plastic, maybe something that I can fish a little faster.

Have you tried using tubes? I like fishing fast and resort to weightless soft plastics if nothing else is working. I fish tubes with a weighted hook and they can be fished really fast. Another option is the hula grub, which is also made by Gary Yamamoto. They can be rigged up weedless and with a little weight can be fished relatively quickly. My best colors so far this year have been white, smoke w/ large blue flakes and fading watermelon w/ blue flakes.

I only like soft stickbaits (senkos) on the outside of weedbeds or light weeds as since usually fished weightless they dont have enough weight to get down in the the lower part of the weeds.
I really like curly tail grubs and worms with 1/4-3/8 oz weights so it can get down deeper.

Composition 4 is a type of plastic (plastique) and you can fish that really fast -you'll get your limit in the time it takes for a 4 inch fuse to burn.......

You could try flukes weightless and rig them texas style. You can fish them slow or fast. You could also try soft plastic lizards with a slip sinker or a carolina rig. Experament. You can rig any soft plastic weedless so the possibilites are endless.:D

Try tossing a jig and pig. I throw them for something different. It eliminates a lot of the smaller fish hitting, but it works for me for a change. Pitch them into the open holes in the weeds, bounce it a few times off the bottom. If nothing hits move on to the next hole. Also as suggested above tossing flukes can be a very productive. My last suggestion is to try carolina rigging lizards. Hope this helps you to get out of your rut.

Texas rig some Sweet Beavers in your favorite colors.

Remember, you CAN fish a Senko or similar bait fast as well....steady reeling with a regular twitch of the wrist produces a walk the dog type action, only a bit below the surface.

I wouldn't worry about it. If all you used on any lake was a senko you'd have a problem. But if you figured out what the fish like on a particular lake then there's nothing wrong with sticking to that bait.
Thats a hell of a rut. I would suggest you try fishing flies tied on 2/0 weedless hooks with an 8 or 9 wt for a while. You might be suprised how many fish have become conditioned to even sencos, but a nuce bunny hair and rubber legged streamer waving in their face is almost impossible to resist.:)

Give the Zoom frog a try...rig it weedless/a 4/0 hook and toss it up in the lillie-pads.Start reel`n it just as it hits the pad.A fast retreive works good and they crush `em.
