I have nevre hunted out of a pop-up blind. All my hunting is usually from the tree. All of you hunters out there that have hunted from blinds can you give me some advice and some info. When hunting out of the blind, did the deer notice the blind. It jsut seems to me, if a big buck knows his home in the woods, and he was walking (say down a creek in a oak woodlot) and all of sudden there is a huge pop-up blind located there he would bust you. Even thoguht he cant smell or see or hear you. Just seeign the blind would be a problem.

When hunting out of a pop-up blind what do you say deers reaction is. Hwo close have you had them actually to the blind. Have any of you noticed deer paying alot attention to your blind or act startled when hunting out of it??

Any info woudl be great!

They always notice it...I've had deer up to 15 yards away but they always kept tabs. Didn't matter how much I camoed it they'd always pick it out. Unless you put it up weeks before season so they can get used to it a pop up will put deer on alert.

So they notice it, but it doesnt bother their movements??? Is that what you are saying.

Yes...they seem curious...do their little stomp and head bob...but they don't spook...just appear alerted.

I have used my pop-up for many years. I have had deer come as close as five yards and never notice,as long as you have a good background to blend in with. They will act a little nervous if you don't blend it in.

Maybe make a brush pile or something so the deer get used to something there. Some of my family members do that when they are worried about people stealing their blind (when we used to hunt public land). They would make like a teepee and throw brush on it, then the day before opener, set their blind up next to or under it.

I set mine up usually 3-4 weeks in advance and spray with scent killer. Deer don't seem to care too much.

I pretty much use mine during gun season. One year I had a group of does walk within 15' of my blind. After they left, a buck came in following their trail, he stopped about 50 yards away, looked at my blind, then turned around and walked away. About an hour after he left, I got out of my blind and looked at it from a distance and the fabric was actually shinning in the morning sun...even through the branches I added to help camo the blind. Towards the end of the season, I spray painted the blind with some flat camo paint to help cut down on the glare. I left it set up in the yard for a couple of weeks after that...until the smell went away.

If the sun hits them right they do "shine" . I've heard double bulls don't but I know my Doghouse will if the sun hits it right. I am thinking of getting one of those new ghillie suits for it.

I figured this out the first year and have since leaned brush against it. It seems to help.

I hunt out of a penthouse. I set it up about 2 weeks before the gun opener. I mostly use it on rainey days or real windy days when I don't like to be in a tree. I got some of that military 3-D netting that the army uses to hide tanks and artilery from the air. I drape it over it and try to brush it in real good. I've had it two years and have yet to shoot a DEER out of it. I know I've got to be paitient.
