I picked up a few Chatterbaits when they first became available and I wasn't that impressed with them. I caught some fish, but it seemed that they were not outproducing anything else...until today. I took my boat out with my cousin and we threw everything I had in my box for the first two hours with very little results. I finally switched over to an all white chatterbait and things really started heating up. The first fish I caught was this Largemouth, my largest of the season (sorry about the pictures, they were taken with a camera phone).

The fish hit 22 inches on the tape. I didn't have a scale with me, but I guessed around 5 lbs. We each caught about four more keepers in the next few hours before we left.

Yeah also used Chatterbait for first time last weekend and caught my biggest bass on it. What lake was this?

22" gets you a Master Angler patch from the DNR. Did you take any pics of it on the tape??? If so, get your patch and your name in this years books!!

Oh, and if you want any more chatterbaits, a friend of mine is now making them (they are 100% high quality... better I think than the original chatterbait). I can get them to you (or anyone) for $5.75 each (I think that's what he's asking for them...). he even has a rattle version... a small rattle attached to the back of the blade. I have yet to try one out though...

Hey Dutch how were you guys fishing those chatterbaits? Straight retrieve, stop and go? Just curious, I bought a couple of the Booyah version and have had limited luck with them.

In my humble opinion, the Booyah versions don't work as well. Neither do the Gamblers. Something about the way they connect the blade to the jig head with a snap.

We took a picture on the tape but the camera was too terrible to get a good shot. You can't see any of the numbers. It looks like we took a picture of the fish next to a yellow stick. Do you need a picture next to the tape? I just read the application form for catch and release and it just says you need a picture of the fish and a witness signature.

I fished it with a steady but pretty slow retrive. Just enough to be able to feel the "chatter". I have caught fish fishing it a little bit faster, but the fish were so inactive that day I thought the slower retrive would be more productive.

I was told a picture helps... either on a tape or with some kind of size reference.... like a $1 bill. But hey, I haven't caught a 22" bass this year. Last year... we got 4 total... first 2 we didn't have a tape of any kind, 2nd 2 we didn't have a friggen camera!!! AAGGHH!!

I've been trying the chatterbaits, but only have one bass to show for it. They work great on pike tho! 12 pike in 40 minutes on two chatterbaits, trolling.

Very nice fish, I would guess that fish was closer to 6 lbs....

To be honest, I have never owned a scale and hardly ever weigh my fish. I have only fished in a few tourney's, so I didn't really have a lot to go on when estimating weight. I didn't want to say 6 lbs and have people thinking I was telling fish tales. But hey, if you're going with 6 then that's what I'm calling it :).

I looked up the info for Master Angler, does say you need close up and clear picture of the fish. Click on the link below,

I wrote in and asked them if I needed a picture on the tape. I got a reply today stating that if the pictures are of an alright quality they have a biologist that will look at the fish and can determine length and weight.
