Fished last night and this morning till 7. There was good chop, but the wind was a S-SE. We hit the first fish at 10:30pm:
A nice slightly colored hennie, caught by Dan, one of the locals up there.

Then, it was my bro's turn, around 11:30pm, straight off the tip!

I didn't hook any kings, I'm never the first, but I did walk-troll this nice largemouth off the back corner on the lakeside:

Single hooks get a great bite!

After the second fish, we fished till morning without any more action, save for a couple small, aggressive smallies. All the charter boats went out after first light, and immediatley flew out deep, mainly SE, one did go NE. The surface temps before I left last night were 69-70, but we always get them around now, it's hit or miss, but there's usually a couple around.

Yup. Keep in mind, this early in the season, the fish are not a guarantee right now.The fishing is very day to day, one night you might hit fish, then the next 3-4, nothing. Just keep fishing and catch fish when you can until September, when it gets alot more consistent.
Great to hear! You guys are really patient. No wonder you catch so many.

Nice fish! They look pretty healthy too like they've been eating well. Did you guys check to see what was in their stomaches? Nice job, hopefully this side will rebound over next couple years.

There were very few boats in the morning, maybe 15-20, though the numbers will pick up after Labor day. I remember just 3 years ago, Oscoda had a good-sized fleet in August, alot less now.

Yeah, the male my brother caught had a nice gut on him, and was quite thick across the shoulders, all the way down to the tail. I'll have to call him and see if he checked the stomach. The fish having a bit of color, and being warm to the touch tells me some fish are staying around the shallows, and that buck was definanetly getting a kype sprouting!

We just cast spoons, we only throw out a bait rod in September. Either a bobber/skein, or a bottom rig with a big, fresh bag, and that's during late morning/mid-day. At night it's all lures.
I almost forgot. I got a hold of my brother today, and he said the buck had a bunch of digested food in his stomach, he wasn't sure what.

No... I think it's because they bring everylure and rod they own out to the end of the pier! Look at the photo of the largemouth... most of Bass Pro Shops is laying on the pier!!! LOL!!!
