Having an issue with the Sporty, the annoying beep keeps going off when cruising...even when I open the engine cover, seems like it is broken...samething happened to my buddies boat...Does anyone know if there is a way to disconnect or knows where this might be located, I have a 5.7 Mercruiser, boat is 1998...is it located near the fan...I run the fan almost the entire time we are cruising, it works and it still continues to beep...there is no smell of gas, we have checked over and over for fumes, no overheatings, etc...just an annoying sensor...

Beep, beep, beep..... cut the wires.

I don't think cutting the wires or disabling the warning system is a very bright idea. In fact it is a totally senseless one and could be hazardous the boat and crew
figure out what is making the alarm go off.........and repair the source of the problem......if you can't do it yourself.......pay someone to figure it out for you
it's a boat and hardly rocket science

Check your wiring schematics, it should show the sensor and what color wires are going to it, follow the wires and you will find it.

I agree, find the source of the problem and fix that. Good luck. I wouldn't cut the wires!!!!!

Some guys have been saying that it could be some sort of low oil for the lower unit or something, I will check that out...Thanks again...

Could be low oil, could be a heat sensor. These are the two most common warning alarms. However low oil beeps every second or so and the heat alarm is a constant blaring beep that continues to sound without any intermittence.
If you boat is oil injected mix some oil with your gas and unhook your oil sensor and injector and see if that takes care of the problem. Mix enough oil with your gas so your motor won't be starved for oil though. Good luck.

buy a service manual.......it should spell it out in there all the sources to make the warning sound off
It's extremely difficult to trouble shoot with out one.......it will be money well spent

He said in the original post it is a 5.7 Mercruiser, that's an i/o.

I had a 25 Sportcraft my beeper was located in the blower in let that was for fumes IT would alarm when blower was first turned on for about 10 seconds I also had a fire alarm it had several sensors alarm was under dash

Thanks....this is a constant beep...does not stop until I turn the motor off, mortor is definately not overheating...temp gauge shows a good temp, oil pressure is good...either low oil or fume sensor are the bugs...will pull the boat out and take a look at both

BTW, mine reply on cutting the wires was made in jest. Notice the
I would find the problem then fix.

Well pulled the boat out of the slip, man o man was the outdrive just covered in slime, weeds and whatever else was growing on there...haven't used it much so that did not help...took 30 minutes with a powerwasher to get it cleaned....started her up with the muffs and no omre noise,,,wonder if the slime was blocking something...
The oil resevoir for the lower unit has a sensor, too. (That's what got me once. The oil didn't settle into the lower unit while I had it tilted up in the garage, then when I got her out on the water it settled enough that the sensor went off. Now I'm sure the outdrive is fully lowered during the lower unit flush and refill.)

My bets on the oil res. for the lower unit. Had it get me once too. I just unhooked the wire to the buzzer instead of cutting it. I was fishing and had to do something. That sound was driving me crazy. :dizzy:

I have the drive all the way down, open the hatch and the oil resovior is still showing in at the full line...lightly loosened the top screw in the drive and oil was coming out...so I doubt this would be the cause....thoughts??

One more question, do you guys keep your fans on when cruising?? Just a question I thought I would ask...

I had always ran my boat with the blower on unless I was idling. Well last year I went out fishing on another guy's boat and he didn't run the blower at all. Asked my marine mechanic and he said that I shouldn't need to run the blower other than startup or at still idle. If the boats moving you should be good to go is what he reasoned to me.

I just run the blower for a few minutes before starting and then a minute or two after I get underway. I have always noticed that it put a good draw on the battery when it was on.
Just to throw out some ideas:
When was the last time the impeller was changed?
Checked the oil?
Changed the fuel filter?
Cleaned out the air cleaner?
Checked the oil reserve for the hydraulics?
See any discrepancy in your gauges from past years?
Is one of the wires disconnected from a sensor setting it off?
Does the alarm go off in the test mode right before you start it?
Or go to a 5.7 Mercruiser web site and post your question
I have the same motor in one of my boats and the alarm has only gone off two times. First time was when the wrong oil filter was put on and the seal let loose, I dumped most of my oil in the bottom of the boat. The other time was when weeds got packed around my lower unit and it was starting to overheat.

Yes the alarm does go off when starting the boat but as soon as the boat starts it shuts right off, it did this last year to , but never when we were cruising...The lower unit is full of oil, resovoir is full....How do I check the hydrualic oil, assuming that is for the tilt and trim?? Thoughts??
Oil filter and change this year, both in the upper and lower units...maybe the air cleaner?? Engine gauges are good, no overheating or anything of that nature....impellar changed this year...where would the air cleaner be located??

Is it possible this is just a self test to make sure your alarm buzzer is working ? Like the idiot lights in a car ?
You might not even have a problem.

Ok, I feel like we are starting to get somewhere. Therefore, the alarm goes off when the boat is first started. This is a good thing. What about when you are at an idle or just go at a no wake speed? Is there an alarm? Or is it just when you’re on plane? If you’re on plane and come back off will the alarm turn off?

Alarm turns on for a few seconds when starting the boat, oce started it shuts off, there is nothing beeping when we are at idle or even at low speeds, just when under full throttle, I usually put it in nuetral really quick and then shut the motor down, turn it back on and there is no more beeping until we get her going again:sad: ....thoughts lawnboy???

Helm-mounted Audio Warning System monitors oil pressure, engine temperature and drive lube level and provides instant alarm if any of these vary from normal range

Thats weird, the oil pressure is fine, oil was just changed, temp seems normal right in the middle and the oil resovoir is full....what the heck is going on??

do you have a manual. you might be able to get a fault code and that will tell you whats wrong.

EFI with Thunderbolt Engnition...
Drive Resovoir full, not overheating and just had a fresh oil change...maybe a ll the seaweed and things on the outdrive were blocking something ...had it running with muffs for a while and nothing put her in gear for a while to get RPMS' higher...temp stayed at the middle range, oil pressure was normal....,,,,thoughts...
Now I am really wondering about all the crap and jumk that was on the outdrive after sitting the marine for over a month without use...

By no means, I’m an expert in this field like so many others here. But what I was thinking was that if the alarm only go off when under full throttle then stops when you back off, that that you may have some kind of blockage for cooling. So that when your going slow, the cooling is adequate, however as soon as you open it up there is some kind of restriction and your not getting the supply of coolant that you need. I was also thinking that this type of restriction might be happening with your oil system, where you are not building pressure adequately with an increased speed.
Here is what I would suggest, go to a web site where I/O are common like crownline.com and post this question in the owner form with very detailed information. Trust me when I say you will have so many responses you will not know where to start. Half these guys on that site live for this kind of stuff.
Keep in mind that when using muffs you're to keep the motor under 1200 rpm's, as you may create a draw for water that is greater than the supply.

Well after sparying off the build and muck off the outdrive, took the boat for a ride this evening, and guess what nothing, no noise, oil pressure was fine..temp was fine...wondering if mabe some bloackage and exhasut was not getting out or someting...very weird...

not sure I guess, but the alarm has not sounded after cruising for an hour or so, even on plane so I guess the problem is fixed for now...

I have worked on boats for 12 yrs. and the beep beep is low or no oil pressure or not enough water to the engine,or over heating or mailfunction in unit 734 890 2187

My buzzer would go off when the low volts light lit up so maybe this could be it too. Does the buzz go away if you increase the rpm a touch? In Florida boats blow up occasionaly. It gets so hot that fuel vapors can become extremely combustible. You run the blower for a second to elminate the possibility that over time your bilge has filled up with these vapors. There's no reason to run the blower again until the boat sits for a period of time.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with a 4.3 L with a Volvo outdrive. It happened after I changed the oil. couldn't find the oil that the owners manual called for SAE 30 synthetic, so I used the next choice that the manual listed. The oil pressure ran high then. I was able to find the right oil after that and have never had the problem again.
