Ludington Or Manistee

I'm going to mullet lake from aug 19-27 and am planning on going lake michigan, I'm undecided weather to go to ludington or manistee. Where should I go. and will the fish be starting to stack up by the piers by then?

That is PRIME time, either port will be great fishing! Water temp depends on where the fish will be, if its colder water they will be closer if not they will be out deep. Good Luck!!

Well I wouldnt fight all the traffic at the Ludington ramp if I had a choice,not to mention dealing with all those nets out there.:yikes: Mnaistee would be my choice yes:)

Spent the last week in Ludington on vacation and checked out the fish cleaning stations almost every night. During this past weekend, (at 11:45 p.m.) there were lines at the fish cleaning stations at the Loomis Street boat launch and the City Marina. Seen a lot of nice kings and some big browns and steelhead.

You will not be able to go wrong with either port. I am sure whichever one you pick there will be more than enough salmon to go around.

I will be in manistee form the 7th-11th. I too just got back form ludington and when the weather was good the fishing was great. I decided to try manistee this time. This has ben my best year ever for salmon! I love this time of the year :fish:

Either port should be great at that time. If you decide on Ludville don't hesitate to try south, even though the majority of the boats will be north. We had a boat slipped there for quite a few years and south is quite often better fishing with alot less boat traffic that time of year.

Go north of Manistee to the 21-22's-180' of water. Lots of big kings! The fish are 100' down, We had best luck on riggers....red meat/fly/hoochie etc. Easy fishing!!!!;)

If you are restricted to pier fishing you'll need to get out there while it is still dark and fish until daylight. After the sun gets up the fish head for deeper water.

Right now from Manistee to Frankfort the fish are over 200+ feet of water 70-100 feet down.

I wouldnt do any peir fishing unless some cold water blows in from an offshore blow right now.Late in August through october is prime time for salmon fishing off the piers at Ludington ,Manistee and Frankfort.Otherwise if in a boat head to manistee where theres much better facilities,launching ramps etc.Go out deep unless the cold water moves the fish in closer.Early Mornings from 5:30am till 11pm and evening 8-11pm good bites right now.This Pattern should remain through out the remainder of late summer as the fish begin staging for the spawn.Nothing personal with Ludington it offers fine fishing as well Just alot more crowds and less fishing time to wating at the ramps.Theres alot of nets out there south and to the north near the points:yikes: Not to mention people forget and set their waypoints inside the harbor which is a no no:yikes: If your not familar with that area its quite posible for a few who dont know what they are doing to try jumping the pierheads and breakwalls without successfully doing so:dizzy:
