Just wondering if anyone on here has ever deer hunted in Maryland? My sister lives there and lives on 55 acres of farm and swamp. I was down there in the spring and it looked pretty good. So my brother and I have decided to give it a shot. So now I'm wondering when the best time to go is? So if you have hunted in Maryland let me know what you think of it. By the way the property is about 5 miles from the pennsylvania border, if that helps. Thanks

There's a magazine called Whitetail News from the Whitetail Institute. In the edition I just received there's an article called "Trophy Trends". One of the things the author looks at is the number of square miles it takes to grow a Boone & Crockett buck. For the past five years Maryland was the number 9 state, even finishing ahead of Kansas. For all time Maryland is the number 7 state, ahead of Indiana, Missouri, & Kansas.
Here's a quote from the author: "Maryland is an excellent big buck state and has been for many years. Obviously the biggest problem is obtaining permission to hunt on private land. If you have a relative who owns land there, consider giving them a call. You might be surprised what walks by".
Hope you have a great hunt.

You did not say whereabouts on the penn border. Western maryland is very rural and yes some nice bucks come outta there. The further east you go the more urban it gets. S

Thanks for the replies:) The land that I will be able to hunt is in Freeland, Maryland, which is in northern Baltimore County. I found this broken antler when I was down there this spring. So i am pretty excited to hunt it.

.... I too have a sister that lives in Maryland and is right on the border (only about a quarter mile) from PA. Her mailing address is Elkton (to the south) but actually lives closer to Fair Hill. I've thought about hunting there too sometime as she has access to 100's of acres of property and on my trips there (never during hunting season) I've seen countless deer. We've ridden horses over hundreds of miles of trails through woods and open fields. It's one of the prettiest areas I've ever seen. She's a professional horse trainer and goes on those British type fox hunts all the time.
Good luck if you go - I'll be real curious to hear how you do!
