Seems like I have heard only good things about these two heads. I am trying to decide which one to try this fall. Anyone have any comments that should make me choose one over the other? I would be using the 100 gr. head.

Either will do the job for sure. You have to ask yourself a question here. Can you sharpen blades with some proficiency? If you can, then I'd say the Montec is your best bet. They are great heads that keep on giving.. It's a onetime investment without the need for replacement blades. If you feel you are not that capable of sharpening, then I'd say go with the Slick Tricks, They say the blades are resharpenable, but most will just replace them. One set of ST's with an extra set of blades is equal in cost to one set of Montecs. ;)

Slick Trick 100s all the way. Very strong and puts one heck of hole through a deer.

You don't have to be that proficient at sharpening montecs, They've built the heads at the perfect angle, so you only have to slide it back and forth to sharpen it.

Good post Rustyaxecamp, I was looking at both of these too. I think I am leaning toward the Montecs.

Me too. They are made in MI, which is a plus.

Although I agree that for some, the Montecs are easy to sharpen, others have had a very tough time of it. That video is lacking in my opinion. I use more than a stone for mine and I guarantee it's a better way. A set of 100, 600and then 1000 grit sandpapers glued to a board and then followed up by leather and a polishing compound is far superior to the G5 video. Try it and you'll see!!;)

I am not sure if a deer or a well tuned bow could tell the difference between these two heads. It probably does come down to what Michihunter said between replacing or sharpening blades. For what it is worth, the slick tricks have been superb for me.

I'm using Montec's, I like the way the fly with my setup and they can do some damage. Hoping to take a Bear with them in about a month. It's always a plus support a Michigan company.

I broke a Montec about three years ago on a spine shot. Obviously got the deer, but one of the blades was broken right in the radius were the bottom of the blade meets the ferrule. Perhaps a void in the metal from the MIM process?? The radius area should have been one of the strongest points of the head.

I have shot Slick Tricks since and they are AWESOME! Give them a try and you will not be disappointed.

Definitely the Slick Tricks....I have heard many people commenting that the steel the Montecs are made out of is fairly soft, and if you happen to hit a small rock or something hard (after the shot) that they get dinged up pretty bad, even to the point that you cannot get an edge back on them.

I have used Slick Tricks myself and am very impressed with them....they cut a very large hole compared to a 3 blade head, plus they are extremely durable and fly exactly like field points. Starting sometime within the next week or two there will be new blades shipping with all new orders of Slick Tricks. Gary has gone to using German steel in his blades now, which should solve the problem of the blades not being "super" sharp on the previous models.

I'm very impressed with the flight of the Slick Tricks . They shoot just like a field tip , and are very tough .
