just picked up a bare aluminum 16 flat bottom i'll be using this fall for duck hunting... i'm wondering how many quarts of self etching primer i'll need to do the inside and out on the boat.

Take some measurements to find out how many square feet you need to cover. You should be able to calculate how much you need after that.

I painted the outside of my 14' semi V (smaller row boat style) and it took about 1 1/2 quarts. I used a brush to cut in for the seams and rivets and a roller for the rest of the larger areas. A lot of paint was wasted by using the roller and it could have been done in only the quart if I would have brushed it all. I used the roller as I felt that it would be a more even and thicker coat of paint. Well that and I didn't want the hassle of cleaning spray paint equipment.
The best would be to measure and calculate the area as ih722 suggested and compare that to coverage listed for your particular paint keeping in mind how you plan on applying it, brush, roller or spray will affect how much coverage you will get per quart.

when using rollers get the foam ones. they dont hold as much paint and you get a smoother finish.
