View Full Version : MUCC broadhead tests
Last night on Michigan Out of Doors, they had a segment on broadhead tests.
It was very interesting and very informative. And some tests actually surprised me.
The full story/report is on MUCC's website, FYI.

Yea, I watched that too. It was very interesting ... I found myself asking "Why do all broadheads fly low and left compared to the field tips?" Obviously, the mechanicals all flew closer to the field tips. The plywood impact was eye opening too. Just glad to see something on bow hunting ..... it's gettin close!

That was very informative, a very fair test.
I was glab to see the Tekan's preform so well, I just bought 6 for $62 and would have been a little bumbed if another type ahd out preformed them.

I was a little disapointed they didnt include Thunderheads in the test. Those are, what I think very good broadheads.......
I hear ya Burksee. Thought they would have Thunderheads too.
Would have liked to see Slick Tricks, Muzzy new 4 blade, Magnus Stingers, and a few others.
Maybe they'll do another segment??

That's like doing a test of operating systems .......but skipping Windows.
Or cola taste tests without Coke. Beer tests without Bud.
You get the picture.
Thunderhead 100's sell more units than any other head on the market.
Yet, they don't include 'em. ????
And, I'm not biased here..........I don't use 'em. But, I do know that it's not a bad idea to use the market leader as the benchmark for testing..........any other heads can be judged relative to the leader...ala' Head X is 10pts better than the market leader; Head Y is 8pts worse than the market leader.

Not to seem ignorant or start a heated debate, having never shot either head, is there a significant difference between a 3-blade Muzzy and 3-blade Thunderhead?
Same test as last year, the Snyper & Aftershock performed better than the Tekan on penetration, Snyper better on accuracy.
They did comment that all broadheads hit the same spot on multiple shots, i.e. if it was off 2" to the left and low, it was consistently off 2".
I used 100 grain Grim Reapers last year, going to a 2 blade mechanical this year, and have it narrowed down to Snyper, Aftershock, Rage, or the cheap-o alternative, Eastman Outfitters First Cut. Not sure which one, but I'll probably go with a rear opening head.

hey guys I agree with you all about testing the Thunderheads. hey if you want to see some broadhead tests out there check out broadheadtests.com and they rate each head on plywood, steel drum, a tire and sharpness factor. check it out they did a number of tests on numerous broadheads.

This segment was from last year. Hopefully they update it every couple of years with new data.
