I went out last night to set another stand, everything was going fine, finished and sat down in the stand. Im looking over a cornfield and i hear voices....im 2 miles from the nearest house road etc.. now i know what you are saying, the voices are in my head.lol. just then i heard a crashing of the corn, and out blasted 7 deer. they stopped after about 75 yds and look back. As they did i hear the voices again and so did the deer....BOOM they were off again, and never stopped til they hit the woods. :yikes: What the hell?? I swear this is true and i stayed another hour or so to see anyone and no one was there. where i live, we know all the local farmers and people pretty well respect the land an wouldnt come on your property with out asking. Plus its 2 miles off the main roads..????????

prolly walked past you as you were putting up the stand and you didnt hear or see them. Once they thought you couldnt hear or see them they started talking. The deer being scared past you should have been the second clue. Might have been a farmer taking a look at the corn crop or out for nice walk..

What were the wind conditions that night? Voices can carry a LONG way over open ground with some wind behind them. Is it possible that you were hearing somebody's loud radio from a far distance? This happens at home, I can hear loudspeakers from some distant lake club / bar like they are right next door if the wind is right.

2nd guess - kids hiding in the fields while drinking / smoking / 'rutting' ;)

As far as it being the farmer...I am...it's my field.. I dont know but it isnt the first time strange stuff has happened in that part of the farm..And knock wood, in 21 years hunting out there, i have never had anything taken. We own 600 acres and this is in the middle.

Wanna hear something weird? We have a guest bedroom in the basement that I use often. The bed used to belong to my grandmother before she died about 7 or 8 years ago. One morning I forgot to set the alarm clock, and was woken about the time I was supposed to get up by a skaking of the bed. I lied there about a minute trying to figure out what just happened, and it did it again! I can sit in your stand and guard the corn field for you. Maybe I could check out the whole 600 acres and make sure nothing goes on. Heck, I can stop some of those deer from eating the corn while I am there too.

If you were putting up your stand in preparation, don't you think its possible someone else adjacent to your property was doing the same?

Where you using a hammer, nails?....making alot of noise? Good have been a good neighboor checking things out for you....or yes...could have been a stand snatcher that heard you putting the stand up....or a lost/tresspassing neighboor, or a neighboor that has a visitor.

Being an outdoorsman....when i go to a family members house, or friends house that has some land...i luv to sneak off on my own and check for sign, check out the lay of the land. Watch for wildlife, get some time to myself ...nothing like the sound of wind blowing through a tall wheat field or trees or vegetation , specially right at dusk...with the sunset. Great feeling just to pop a squat, back against a tree and sit quiet and see what happens.

Could have been a couple of guys scouting that group of deer...and spooked em.

Hey, now that you mentioned Rompola, what is the scoop on him these days anyway? I know after he shot that monster of a buck and had all of the negative publicity, got away from the public eye. Its simple. You put the stand up ,sat down ,feel asleep and had a bad dream. But if your still spooked I would be more then willing to come on up and stake out the property during the deer season. And if its ok you can hunt it next year.
