This will be my first year hunting from a tree stand. I have two ladder stands I'll be putting up shortly.

What's the best bow holder/hanger for use when up in a tree stand?

Something like this (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0033048417237a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=bow+hanger&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=bow+hanger&noImage=0)is what I am looking for?

I invented my own when I was sitting in the stand one night. I took a piece of rope (about 3/8 dia) and put a knot in one end. Then tied it to a limb overhead, you have to get the length just right. I hang between my legs, with the grip about thigh high. When a deer comes in I slip my hand down my leg, lift the bow slightly and draw back. The rope falls away and I can stand, turn or anything. It is fast and silent. If I have more time, which is usually the case I'll grab the bow and pop the rope out.

How is the bow attached to/supported by the rope?

Opps, forgot that part. You put the knot between the bow string and the top wheel or cam.

That makes more sense! Thanks I might give that a try!

The only thing that'll cause problems is if you have the rope too high. Because if you pull down while drawning, it'll stay stuck in the string and wheel. Error on the low side, so you are always lifting the bow. It has worked very well for me and the price is right :)

DTrain, I used that type of bow holder for the first time last season and absolutely loved it. The reason being that it is so easy to adjust the position of the bow. Personally, I like to hang my bow to that the grip is at hip level or slightly higher and also like to use the bow as additional camo. That is, if deer are coming in, I keep my face behind the bow. btw, I also use leaves on the bow so it works great for additional camo to hide you.

Only negative on this holder is that it is quite heavy but has to be to be strong enough to hold the bow out so far. Still, it's not bad. I slip into my pants pocket going out to the stand.

I picked up one of these last year and I love it. I got the three limb one and you can manipulate that thing into a ton of different positions for your bow. I will be buying another shortly. The Primos one looks to be a little less expensive, and is probly just as good of quality. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy a cheapo knock-off version. You will find out why after twenty or so minutes of trying to screw it in!
Freepop's idea sounds prett good as well!

I bought the short realtree-e-z-hanger and I love it. It fits right in your pocket and it put the bow right were you need it. It is worth ever penny.

I have been using a hanger similar to the one that you have a link to in your initial post. The one I use is from Real Tree. The main difference from the one you referenced is that it pivots out of your way and can be adjusted to fit right in front of you as you sit. I hang my bow in front of me and use it to hide behind to avoid eye contact with nervous deer.
