I’m considering getting a new drop away rest. I’d appreciate any recommendations on quality drop away rests. Please give reasons why you recommend them. I’m also interested in hearing about any problems you have had with drop away models. Thanks in advance.

MZE is the best I have tried so far " I primarily hunt" I like the big hook so the arrow does not fall off,and as long as the cables on your bow move the rest is going to come up and go DOWN "you don't have to rely on a spring" I have one on my bow and my wife has one on hers also . They are both on Hoyt's so maybe there are some bows that they are not well suited to but my wife and I plus a few friends have been very happy with ours . I have also heard good things about the trophytaker shakey hunter but have no personal experience with it.

Mike, it was good meeting you at the show this weekend.

For simplicity and rugged design its hard to beat the shakey hunter by trophy taker. Downside, it can be a little difficult to quiet down at the release of the arrow.

My buddy is using teh QAD ultra and this design has really impressed me. It has the features of a containment rest and the beneifits of a drop away. COver it in mole hair and its deadly quiet.

ITs hard to beat one of these for hunting though.

Golden Key Futura won't break your bank with their great offerings in the Drop Aways. I personally like the TKO for the versatilility in a rest. The Mirage is another great option.;)

My choice is the rip cord drop away with mole skin cover to keep nice and quiet. Shot a bunch of arrows with it and no adjustments needed yet, its quiet and reliable. The only downside is depending on the way you hunt it doesnt lock up the arrow like a whisker bisquet until you draw the bow. I havent had a problem with the arrow flopping out yet.

I vote Ultra Rest

full contain (comes with a piece of moleskin)
drop away, plus..if you draw your bow and let down, the rest doesn't go down.
You can get a Ultra Hunter for around 50.00 shipped

The Rip cord i like too, but its biggest draw back, is when you draw your bow and have to let down..the rest goes down

My vote is the Trophy taker and the Quad Ultra Rest. One being completely enclosed so the arrow does not fall out and the other has a very large shelf that helps to keep the arrow from falling. Both are excellent rests and used by numerous top shooters.

The scooper centers the arrow and it doesn't fall off. Pretty easy to set up and I've got the older one. If I cannot screw it up it is a winner!

I just put a QAD Pro on my Mathews Prestige. I can already tell this will be the best rest I will ever use for hunting. Easy as heck to tune, and quite a bit more forgiving than the whisker biscuit.

I might try the QAD Hunter model out . I like the full containment feature in a drop away rest when hunting .

I have tried several different drop away rests , but I go back to the WB because I like to lay the bow on my lap while hunting in my treestand and the full containment helps me come to full draw and focus on the deer without looking down at the arrow .

Spend a little extra and get the Pro. Better lock down, aluminum, and easier to tune.

I've been thinking about trying the NAP Quicktune Smart Rest. Any pros and cons?

I'll throw another punch for the GKF Mirage, it's an awesome rest! I have two of them on two different bows and have been using them for several years now. The Mirage got some bad reviews when it first came out years ago and for good reason, imo it had some flaws in it's design with the spring and sliding block configuration and there were some instances of breakage. However, GKF stepped up and totally redesigned the Mirage in 2005 and have even made another upgrade in 2006 by adding teflon bushings to the launcher arm. IMO the mirage is without a doubt the best hunting fallaway out there. It's very easy to setup and tune and once it's set it stays set. It provides everything i was looking for in a fallaway for hunting. It has good arrow containment with it's cup design and great arrow capture on the draw with it's scoop launcher. It will pick up the arrow and center it everytime no matter where the arrow is lying on the bow shelf when drawn. It's whisper quiet on the draw as well as on the shot which is a must for me in a hunting rest. I won't use anything else on my hunting bow.

I took off the QAD Hunter and put the biscuit back on . I couldn't get adequate fletching clearance , and it stayed locked up and wouldn't release properly all the time .
Drop away rests make great 3-D rests for those who like to tinker and tune them constantly , but I just like to shoot and forget about tuning a rest contsantly .
For hunting ,nothing beats a WB . I have tried several different drop away rests ,and allways come back to the WB for the simplicity . Set it and forget it .
