Going with some friends for a week in July. None of them are really familiar with fishing this lake but I've heard its pretty good. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

its been a long time, but we did well drifting with the wind pulling crawler harnesses through the weed beds. Small walleye and large perch.

Now I would also try casting erie deeries over the tops of the weed beds.

Bring some medium bass tackle and some spinnerbaits with mister twister trailers. Cast the deeper weed edges for some very nice pike and numbers of them. Steel leaders are a must.

They have expanded the state forest campground over the last few years, and this has added increased pressure on the fishery. water level can sometimes be a problem also.the previous replies are correct, large perch(albeit, few and far between) walleyes are taken all over the lake(weed related) or at night along the shallow sandy shore and smallish northerns. Cormorants have also been aproblem , as they have in the other Curtis area lakes.

lake milakokia is in michugans upper peninusula, approximately 70 miles due west of the bridge.

If you can find the narrow channel out from the campground launch and North West I think. It is long and narrow about 10-12 ft. deep, great for walleye, and go to the South East end of the lake your looking for the drop off also good. From what I have seen the lake is not deep over all but casting across the weeds for pike is fun. Hope I helped.
