View Full Version : Drop away rest?

I'm sure this is an ongoing question, but here goes. I shoot a Mathews Legacy and have a quiktune 3000 micro rest, I'm thinking about going to a drop away rest, most of them use the cable slide to raise the rest at full draw, my Mathews uses a pulley system on the cables, What would be the better rest for this bow? I like the 3000 because it's easy to adjust, but I'm sure there are better rests out there. Most of the guys I shoot with have some sort of drop aways. It has improved their shooting, they shoot PSE, Hoyt. etc. The reason I'd like to change is because I have a slight problem shooting Vanes, feathers work a lot better, so I must have a rest issue? I think I have it tuned pretty good, paper test is a perfect bullet hole at different ranges with feathers, vanes not so good.

Nearly any rest that uses the cord to hook to the cable clide can be modified for the roller gaurd bow by tying the cord to the down cable instead.
Some tie it around and use a brass nock to keep it there, some split the cable and serve the cord in, some serve the cord right to the cable...myriad of ways to make it work but it's a snal to do.
I'm partial to the Trophy Taker myself but Trophy Ridge makes a good one, GKF has a couple, Copper John...probably a dozen or more that'd work better than the NAP IMO.
I had 3-4 different NAP drops and could never get proper clearance with them but that was just me. Some guys have no problem.

I don't shoot a Mathews but I love drop aways, I have test a few diffrent drop aways on the market and the two that I love most are Trophy Ridge Drop-Zone and Bo-Doodle (Doodle Drop). kelly Johnson is right there are infinite ways to tie your drop away on your down cable. I spilt my down cable insert the cord to the drop away, adjust the cord vertically in the cable until I get it properly adjust then serve it in. Works like a charm.

I dont see the value in a drop away, especially for hunting. Just another thing to go wrong. Whisker biscuit, bodoodle series are all good. If you have to have the drop away try the QAD ultra.

I don't really have to have one, I was just getting some opinions. The rest I use now is well built and works great for hunting, I'm always looking to improve my 3D matches, I really can't afford two bows, as a few of my buddies have some nice target bows, set up just for 3D ( not fair) but that would be the way to go if I could. Thanks for the replys: Glock

This is true just another thing to go wrong, but it does improve your pattern tremendously. I have been hunting with mine for 3 yrs. now and have yet had a problem with them.

Nice looking rest. Don't think it will work on my Mathews, no cable slide, I have pulleys

I'm currently using a NAP Quiktune 2000, but I am wanting to use my own cable gaurd. I'm thinking of switching to the QAD ultra LD. Here's a link to a video! http://www.qadinc.com/ultra-rest.htm
Good Luck,

I use the nap on my legacy, tied to the down string.the things i don't like is the shaft will jump if you pull back to quick, and the shaft will come off the rest when on it's side. I am going for the new trophy ridge,i shot this rest on a xt and found it to have the features i like.
