I have had a Parker Phoenix 32 for two years now. I really like the bow. It pulls nice and even, it is simple mechanically, I am very consistant with it. However, it just doesn't seem to have the flatness in its shot compared to my buddies bows (Mathews, Hoyt, etc). It doesn't make a big difference from 20-30 yards, but we go out west every year and I use an adjustable sight. I have a 70 lb bow max'd out with ACC 3-49 arrows and from 30 to 40 yards my arrows flat out drop compared to theirs (granted I am shooting about a 28" draw compared to their 29.5")!

I have been thinking about picking up a used Outback or Switchback, but I don't know if I am really going to get anything out of it. Would this purchase be worth it technically (not just looking to join the Mathews brotherhood ;) ). Any advice would be great.

Even if you got those two specific Mathews bows, you'll still see the same arrow trajectory as you're getting now. You'd have to get a bow that IBO's at least 17fps faster than their model bow to equal the speed they are getting with their draw length...draw length is that important. I'm not telling you to try and lengthen your draw, that's a no no, and then you wouldn't be able to hit the broadside of a barn.

I'm just saying you're also using very heavy arrows. If you were to switch to say cx maxima 350's, or PSE carbonweave 300's, you may be able to pick up that extra 10-15fps you're looking for. Stay away from mechs, use a nice cut on contact like the Montecs/stingers/sonics/etc, and you'll be fine.
