Don't really want to lay out the money for dish net , but we spend quite a bit of time at deer camp and would like a little better reception . Right now we have a 70's vintage tower antenna that rotates . Is there anything better out there ? Right now we just get Alpena and PBS on a regular basis . Do boosters work ?

We have a camp in Atlanta/Hillman area. We always joke about the TV up there. We have 2 channels. Off and on

I have a place in harrison and I just collect dvd movies. this way I can always watch a good film. I also record shows at home and bring them up.

We also do this at my other more remote camp on black lake.

What is with people getting an extra dish and box for their home and putting it up north. A bunch of people do this, but is it legal? I heard that you can ask for the extra stuff and still pay only one bill. It sounds fishy :fish2: and I only have 3 channels up at my place.

1.on
2.snow
3.off
We watch dvds,too.

I have a difficult time understanding why anyone would even want a TV at their deer camp!

the local satelite dealer sells tons of extra dishes to people who take there recievers from home to camp. its the same thing as the ones they sell to people traveling in rv's.

also ig going to get a dish get a direct tv one. the dishnetwork ones are very poorly organized channel wise

people get extra dishes all the time for their camps, or even people that go camping all summer take theoir dishes with them. A guy we know live 2 miles from our camp he gave our neighboring camp one of his dishes for his camp works just fine

So do you just need to take the receiver with you ?

You get an extra dish and an extra box, I guess. I know 3 people who do this. One in in the middle of the boonies and runs on a generator. (why would someone drive 4 hours and watch t.v. :dizzy: ) I am not interested. I have 3 kids that watch dvd's or the old Nintendo when they are tired or at night and the bugs are bad.(or rain) I have a giant antenna that turns, but it is not hooked up. I might take it down because it looks like a lightning rod. :yikes:

We have a extra dish on the cabin. It is for football and hockey games, but we also use it for the weather and nothing better then turning it to the classic country channel for after dinner cocktails.:D

Easy now Dennis............without tv I can't actually see my LIONS loose. Keep smiling.

After a busy day at camp getting up early, playing cards late the tv merely offers some background noise to my brothers snoring. Sometimes if your really lucky something good comes on...on the 3 channels we get by Marquette, MI.

You can get an extra dish on Ebay cheap. Directv charges $4..99 a month for an additional reciever. Just take the box with you. I even bought a Satelite finder on Ebay for $1.99. Nothing like watching the Outdoor Channel at the cabin when it's raining. :)

Yeah, the extra dish deal works great. Just take your receiver with you when you go. Legal??? I don't really know but I can't imagine that the dish providers would care so much. You are still paying for what you are watching. I feel you are paying for the receiver box and that is what you take with you. The dish is the cheap thing you connect to the box that you can pick up anywhere. Same here, we watch mostly hunting dvd's but don't like to miss the football and hockey games. Yeah, we could go to the bar to watch them but then we would have to drive after having some beers. Plus, the beers are more expensive than drinking at home. Good luck this year everyone. Have fun and enjoy the outdoor experience.

The only reason i would turn on the tv would be to check my lottery numbers and see if i really must go home:lol:

would a deep cell battery or two with an inverter be enough to run the tv and the box?

The inverter would run the box for a long time. For the TV, you might be better off getting a 12volt version. We used to run a black and white 13" for a week or longer on a cigarette lighter of a truck. Just start the truck to recharge the battery.
